Title: Uninstall and install Firefox? IE unstable?
Post by: wolfman on December 01, 2017, 12:05:32 PM
I had gone to Firefox for a while, but began getting the malware "Critical update" There were also times like now, when I would click on the icon and it would say Firefox is already running, please close to open. And I would get the same thing. So I'm back to using IE because there is a program with IE I have to use to get remote access at work. As far as browsing, it is terrible. It is slow, and sites frequently freeze up and I get the "not responding" message. Is this what is meant as unstable? So my question is, should I completely uninstall Firefox and reinstall and try again? Will I be able to find the favorites I had been saving under Firefox originally? Thanks.    -I'm running windows 7

What app you runnin that requires IE ? ?

Those critical update popups ain't FireFox...so i would update and run all your protection apps ASAP.

The site is through the Dept. of Veteran Affairs, to get through to the hospital from home. It's called VA Citrix Remote Access. It was suppose to be set up through IE. I was under the assumption it wouldn't work with anything else. I know the updates are malware. I ran a program to get rid of them but it didn't work. I have anti virus and I ran malwarebytes, but haven't really been able to run Firefox since.

I ran a malware program and also the iola mechanix program. Deleted Firefox and reinstalled. Worked for a little while, but got the message about Firefox still running in the background. Going to task manager, end firefox processes did not help. The problem is when I went to shut down, the blue circle just kept spinning, it would not shut down. There were no programs to force close. What should I do about this? I had to manually hold down the button on the tower to shut it down to restart.

System Mechanic is pure garbage...often creates more issues than it fixes..
That bein stated your symptoms may be due to HDD goin South...
DLoad and run the free diags from the HDD manuf. site.

As far as HDD issues, how do I run diags? By going to the HP site? Not really sure what I have, is it under device manager?

System Mechanic should at least be able to tell you the brand of hard drive you have.
or you could get Speccy from here; https://www.piriform.com/speccy/builds (https://www.piriform.com/speccy/builds)

[/font]check what FF add-ons you have by hitting Ctrl+Shift+A while in FF.

other ways to determine drive or Windows issues are to run these commands from an elevated command prompt;

sfc /scannow
and
chkdsk c: /r
