Title: Recommendations request

I use only Windows Defender, and I talked to my friends each has different opinion on the subject. Some say that anti-virus software doesn't do anything and some praise them. I would like to know opinion on anti-virus software and recommendations on free as well as paid versions. Why is it that you like that specific software?

personally, have found Defender to be excellent.
my Norton's expired last August, saw the AV comparative tests here;https://www.av-comparatives.org/ so decided to switch.
haven't looked back.

Defender now scores equal or better than all available software out there.
it never used to, only achieving in the 70% ranges which I think is where the historical stigma still comes from.

It gets ballyhooed by those stalwarts who don't research....been in the Top 10 of Free apps consistently for a year now...
I use it on 2 PC's...1 is 24/7 ...other is my testbed PC...
Zero issues in 4 + years...course it wasn't always called Defender...
