Title: Antivirus Recommendation?
Post by: Coco423 on February 18, 2018, 04:58:49 PM
I have a ThinkPad W500 running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit.

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit
Graphics: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo T9400 2.53 GHZ
HDD: 94.4 GB free out of 148 GB
RAM: 4 GB

Can anyone recommend a good antivirus?

Is the built in Windows Defender or Avast better?

to my knowledge, Defender has only hit (and surpassed) the benchmark of other AV's since the Win10 Falls Update.
if I had Win7 still, I would be using Avast (actually AVG/Avast are too in-your-face with trying to up sell other products, personally I'd go with Avira)

I have always advised users to use Microsoft Security Essentials. It is lite weight and unobtrusive. You install it and forget about it.
MicroSoft Security Essentials (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-all-versions)  All versions and all languages.

My parents has similar PCs and they use NOD32, it doesn't use much memory and has internet protection. If you go for free antivirus, I'd go for MSE. If something is free = you are the product, so I'd rather use microsoft stuff.

Are there any where I can setup the program offline? Because the computer is offline and is only online when I yse my cellphone hotspot for a few updates, 3G data, 500 MB - 1 GB of data, so basically odfline. I use the hotspot for it about once every one or two months, theb data runs out, and I have to buy more. It is a prepaid phone, so I can buy data.
