Title: Slow HDD on Laptop
Post by: kelvinpalmer on May 24, 2019, 04:17:54 AM
I bought a refurbished Dell Inspiron 15 3567 and later found out that the HDD port was faulty in the board and they have solder the HDD cable wires in the laptop to make it work.

Now my HDD is running slow and I guess it needs a replacement. Shall I just change the HDD or a workaround like using a DVD-ROM case with SSD fixed to utilize the port?  ???

My friend was telling me about this workaround  ::)

It would work if you had an adapter like this to use... but not all DVD ROM drives are universal, so it may or may not fit properly.

But its really interesting that the hard drive is actually soldered to the main board. Do you have a picture of this to show us the botched repair they did?

The  Dell Inspiron 15 3567 sells on eBay for $300 and less.d Which indicates it is a ether old thing people are dumping.
Advances in technology are coming so fast told stuff is hardly worth the effort to keep it going.
Save up your money u and buy a modern laptop with a warranty.

Hi checking this video it would be a lot of work to make up a cable to connect the hard drive.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Wn8ezGWz4k

I like your friends suggestion of a DVD to Hard drive adapter just check it lists your model Dell as being compatible. Then put the hard drive into the dvd  adapter and copy the slow drive .
Disable the the failing drive in the bios and set to boot from the 2nd SATA port. And you will be good to go .
