Title: Firefox / IE default browser?
Post by: U2can on January 18, 2006, 12:02:32 PM
Forgive me if I missed this topic, I checked and couldn’t find it, but I need help.  I’m using XP with IE 6.0, and I prefer to use Firefox as the main browser.  I have tried to make the option setting in each of these browsers to provide Firefox as the “preferred” one and for some reason IE continues to open after I dialup to the provider.  Help.. I know I’m just missing something very simple that I don’t have checked or unchecked.

I don’t want to uninstall IE as I may need it from time to time for special reasons of updates etc. but I do want to have it remain unopened on the desktop.  Firefox will open ok after I click the desktop icon.

Any help is always appreciated as always.  :-?

Who is your ISP? Have you checked with them? Do you have to use their special dialup software?

At&t.net  is the provider and yes I do use their software for dialup,
however I don’t know if I must use their dialup software.   :-/

I don't know for sure but I'll bet you don't need to use it.  Just create your dial-up connection account in Windows and use it to connect.  If you need to find an access number, see http://help.att.net/iw/ci/access_numbers.jsp?platform=none.

I've seen the same situation with Earthlink.  They give you the impression that you must install their TotalAccess software, but it's really not necessary.
