Title: A different OS? - Verenitti
Post by: Harrybeck on November 10, 2019, 08:13:49 AM
Hmm, a multi platform OS looks pretty cool. I heard of another OS doing the same but for coin mining :/
This looks pretty good, havent found any released version of Verenitti as I want to test the gaming on it.
The kickstarter is cheap for the OS as I dont need (i assume) specific hardware....
Any views about it?

I would not recommend being an early adopter of this mysterious OS - the details are scant. It doesn't even describe the kernel in broad strokes. Is it based on BSD? Linux?

The performance hit from virtualization will significantly impact game performance. Neither Adobe or Apple are supportive of virtualizing their software, so I'd expect legal hurdles if this ever releases.

As for security - I would not install untested, closed-source virtualization software on bare metal without some solid security testing by a reliable third party.

Hard pass on this one, I smell vapor.

Said to be "Unix-like", bit if not GNU, then based on OpenSuSe or BSD?

Not appealing.

Vapor/vapour that has condensed into $36,000 so far for these people.

The kickstarter page is a bunch of marketing wank. OP is probably directly involved in the kickstarter. it's been coincidentally "posted" by people posing as curious observers on various internet forums. And when they face any negative, they (or some other new user) start babbling about privacy, something which has hardly been demonstrated as being provided by this "new OS".

I suspect calling it "Unix Like" is their way of saying it's a Linux distribution, while making it sound like it's actually a complete OS. A lot of the screenshots show existing Linux software, so the impression I get is "We need 140K to create a Linux distro".

They also don't ever mention where the 140K goes or what it is for. Are they paying themselves? Programmers? artists? Who is actually involved? We know they don't have a native English proofreader for their marketing text. Best I can figure is that is all for manufacturing/assembly of their "hardware rewards".

Not worth your time. IMHO.
But, here is a thing that comes up in a search:
