Title: power button flashes but PC does not start
Post by: jamesbrilliant14 on March 09, 2006, 11:59:50 AM
my PC is a Dell Dimension 8200. when i press the power button it flashes orange, however the PC will not start. Where as you can hear the parts loading up when the PC is normally started ie. the hard drive, the fan whirring up etc. this does not occur, and the computer seems dead except for the power button flashing orange when it should be green when the PC is running normally. The power cable is securly connected and the power is turned on as normal. I am stuck! ps. no i am not in standby mode lol

any help is much appreciated

James

Have you tried disconnecting the PC from the wall before restarting?

Are you familiar with the insides of PCs?

Dell has a built-in safety feature for their pc's... Your pc will go into that mode when there is a power fluctuation or it has a bad power supply.  To remedy the Orange or amber light.. either unplug it and then power it up or hold in the power button for 10 seconds until the light goes out.. then power it up.  If it happens again and more frequently... it's a bad power supply.
