Title: Windows XP fatal system error
Post by: Miles Williams on August 27, 2004, 10:40:06 AM
Ok where to begin...Ok my boss brought in these 2 computers and hooked one up and it had windows 98 on it, so i put in an XP disk and i installed it on there, but i had to skip one file because it wouldnt let me install it.

After it was installed my computer restarted and it said fatal system error, and everytime its starts up in says that and thats all.  so now all i can do is go into safe mode.  Ive tried going back to the last good configuration and it still says the same thing, I have no clue what i should do or if i can uninstall xp from safe mode or reinstall it??  ???
If you can help it would be much abliged.
thank you.

Did you overwrite Windows 98 without an upgrade copy of Windows XP?

Did you check the hardware compatibility before you tried installing XP?

It is well known that it is better to format the drive and make a clean install of XP.
