there it is hope u can help
-
Yet another one suckered in by the promise of these toolbars. :o
-
so is thaT WHAT I NEED TO GET RID OF?
IF SO WHATS THE BEST WAY?
-
add/remove programs
-
ok got rid of yahoo tool bar and google toolbar
is that it?
do u think that was the problem?
should i run another hijackthis and get the log?
-
does the computer continue to restart??
-
dont know yet i just read ur post ( thanks for taking the time to help by the way)
and just got rid of these
gimme a good 15-20 minutes and ill post back wether it has restarted or not
-
ok it still restarts
it also came up with an error before it shut off talking about how my drivers may either be not intalled properly or they need updated? not sure what it means im not very educated when it comes to the tech part of pc's
any other suggestions on what may be the problem and how to fix it?
-
right click on my computer go to properties-->click hardware tab--->device manager.. look through the drives and tell me if there are any with yellow ? or red x's.
do a windows update first then do what i said above
also have u read this http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1149804407 like GX1_Man said to? if not do so
-
yes i have read that and i did go to the driver thing and it said some needed updating but then said i needed to pay for it
but heres a pic of what u had asked me to do
-
so when u try to update those two drivers they say you have too pay for the update? umm i never heard of paying for a driver update
is your computer a gateway?? if so have a peak here at the driver center http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp
-
no i mean that link u gave me and asked if i read it , theres an scan and update driver thing these r the ones it says r bad
display adapters - ATI Technologies, inc . rage XC AGP 2X
modems - Lucent Win Modem
universal serial bus controllers - USB printing support
- USB composite device
- Intel(R) 82371A/EB PCI to USB universal host controller
those r the ones it says r bad and in the device manager thing u told me to go to i try updating them and it says
the wizard cannot find a better match for your hardware then the software u currently have installed
when it says its bad that doesnt just mean it needs updating does it?
maybe it means its not installed correct?
i dont know what do u think
nope i have a intel p3 not gateway
-
lol i didnt read... if they red u need to uninstall them and reinstall them.. right click them and click uninstall then restart and it should prompt you to install new devices
updating but then said i needed to pay for it
whats that about?? what that for the red ones or the yellow ones
-
I'm going to quit using that link because you do NOT need to pay for drivers. You just need to know for sure what hardware is there so you can get the correct driver. What is the Gateway model #?
Download and run Everest (free) and make a summary in .txt format and then post it here.
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
-
i asked the same thing
but "nope i have a intel p3 not gateway"
-
This is for you, UW:
http://www.computerhope.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1153742317
-
ummm.. ok i read it..
-
these r the drivers that http://driveragent.com/?ref=59 says r bad
and that is the one that wants u to pay to update ur drivers but here r the ones that it said r bad
display adapters - ATI Technologies, inc . rage XC AGP 2X
modems - Lucent Win Modem
universal serial bus controllers - USB printing support
- USB composite device
- Intel(R) 82371A/EB PCI to USB universal host controller
-
did u try to uninstall them and reinstall them like i suggested earlier?
ummm can u send a pic of the window where it say you have to pay for the update?
-
r u sure ill be able to reinstall all the drivers that i uninstall?
read what ones they r
-
as long as u have the internt.. i had to do it for my video card a while back.. once uninstall them restart and windows should detech new hardware.. they hardware that you uninstalled the drivers for..
-
REPRINT ! You do not need to use driveragent to resolve this!
-
ok i have uninstalled all drivers that the scan said were bad now i have restarted and and they have all re installed automatically
now do u think my problem is over?
i sure hope so ill try it out and see what happens hope it dont restart again :)
again i appreciate all your help
having to deal with a dumb asse (myself) lol
-
its fun it makes me think outside the box and at a different level( computer wise)
-
If there are no exclamation marks in Device Manager, you are probably good to go. I don't believe restarting will be a problem UNLESS there are other issues.
Do download and run Everest from the link I provided so you can know for sure what is in that computer. It's up there ::) ::) ::) ::)
-
look in the secong post on the second page in that pic i attached it shows 2 things with yellow exclamation points? i tried updating but it says i have the latest blah blah blah

OK, that gets all of the components. Sometimes there are subtle differences between standard devices and OEM products. You said this was a Gateway, right? The model number may be in the full report, although I didn't see it in what was posted.
You can also download and run Belarc Advisor (free at www.belarc.com). When you run that on the right side of the screen will be the Gateway Model Number, Serial Number and some other pertinent info.
Belarc is nice, but it will not identidy all devices if the drivers are not already installed. I keep both on my Windows machines. ;)
-
i asked my step dad he said it aint a gateway but its an intel he said so i dont know
-
OK, then, we got sidetracked. ::)
That is an Asus P2B motherboard with a PIII-550 processor which had a glowing review in 1998! It has a BX chipset so what you have is pretty much all it will ever be.

ok when i go to that site then what?
-
ok but what about the 2 yellow exclamation points in manage hardware?
should i just disable them (page 2 post 2 for pic of this)
ok my computer is not restarting as far i i know but rather just freezing?
-
hello?

im soo confused im ready to scrap this peace of shiat pc
-
Don't be so impatient. You only waited 30 minutes! ::)
Very slowly and carefully describe exactly what is happening now.It was running and the problem were the yellow exclamation marks, then _________.
-
srry i been going crazy for the last 3 days trying to fix this
ok at first it froze after about 15 minutes on
i restarted it and then continued the game i was playing then again after about 10-15 minutes it froze a second time
i then restarted again
then i continued to play my game again
this time it just restarted and now im here
the yellow exclamation points have been there the entire time look on page 2 post 2 it has the pic of it attached

What happens if you remove the add on cards - modem, etc. in there, but particularly the modem?
What happens if you remove the side panel and blow a big fan directly in there? Any difference?
Have you removed and reseated the RAM? Tested it? (www.memtest86.com for a free bootable floppy or CD). Check each stick for an hour or so individually, then all together.
Remove the optical drives and see if this affects the problems.
You have to do this systematically to remove all of the variables and then add one thing in at a time to see if it causes the failure.
What is showing in event viewer from the crashes?

ok im not sure what u mean by some of those terms im not good when it comes to the internal part of the pcc just learning still
#1 remove modems cards - do u mean literally open the pc and remove the cards?
#2 i dought that its over heating but ill try the fan thing (pc is hardly ever on)
#3 ram - do u want me to take it out and replace it right away? in the same spot? or remove it then start up windows again ?
#4 optic drives?
#5
You have to do this systematically to remove all of the variables and then add one thing in at a time to see if it causes the failure. - huh?
#6 What is showing in event viewer from the crashes? - weres it that?
ohh but by the way everything has been in working order before it all started messing up lil by lil ever since we switched internet providers my wireless modem dont even work no more i cant get my other pc up running
we switched from rogers high speed cable over to execulink dial up then to execulink high speed pppoe
do u think this could have had any affect?
im so srry if u really dont wanna explain all those things i dont blame u
-
what part of the event viewer do u wanna see?
application
security
system
-
#1 remove modems cards - do u mean literally open the pc and remove the cards?
Yes, physically remove them.
#2 i dought that its over heating but ill try the fan thing (pc is hardly ever on)
Famous last words.
#3 ram - do u want me to take it out and replace it right away? in the same spot? or remove it then start up windows again ?
Remove it, then put it back in, making sure it is firmly seated in same spot.
#4 optic drives?
CDR, DVD, etc. drives
#5 You have to do this systematically to remove all of the variables and then add one thing in at a time to see if it causes the failure. - huh?
Don't try all of these suggestions at once. If something works you will never know exactly what it was. This can be a learning experience. (Ever heard that one before?) Try each one and then try running the machine for a while to see if the problem continues, changes, or goes away.

Any hardware or software change has the potential to cause problems. Let's just take our time. It's not time to toss that machine to the curb. ;)

i have scanned for spyware/viruses/adware/malware.
i updated windows a vew days ago sp2 package i think it was.
tested hdd said i have to restart then it does a 5 0f 5 step thing before logging on windows came back to pc and it was logged in so musta did what it was supposed to.
ok i have disconnected all cards and reconnected them.
i have disconnested all ram and then reconnected them.
i also shoved a fan in there for a good 2 minutes ( mayber longer? ).
didnt do nothing with optic drives.
im dumb i did do it all at once but ill do it 1 by 1 letting it run for awhile afterwards to see what it might be ( srry i shoulda waited).
i did find event viewer but it gives me 3 options of things i can look at these include.
application .
security.
system .
quick question i dont use dial up no more so should i just remove the dial up modem from my pc?
things yet to do tonight
disk clean up
disk defragment
another scan with avg
power supply test
system teperature check
and a test ur ram thing (says for best results run overnight )
1 more question
would it help to just disable or remove the devices cuasing problems?
in driver agent it says some of my drivers r bad but when i go to devise managment and go to properties of that driver it says its working properly?
but then in device managment there r 2 that have a yellow exclaimatrion point?
again ty for ur help thus far i will return tomarrow after doing everything i had said and give u updates
-
The problem with Driver Agent is that in the end they want to sell you their service (and too expensive, I might add). They will no doubt ALWAYS find something that they can fix for a fee. ;)
I would just physically take the modem out if not being used.
-
ok i have done
*censored* clecnup
disk defragment
avg virus scan
removed the dial up modem (have a suspicioun that that is the problem)
i didnt do power supply test casue it asked for info about my pc andf im not really sure what everything is thats in my pc
but now ima just let it run for a lil bit and see if the dial up modem was the problem then 1 by 1 ill remove other components and let the system run a lil bit see if we can figure it out
-
make sure to see if the cpu fan is clean and the other fans inside your computer are clean. cuz i was working on a computer that kept restarting on me and all i did was clean the fans with cotton qtips. just a suggestion
-
ok will do
were bound to figure it out soon or a later trial and error
-
ok i cleaned both fans with qtips and my vacum lol cleaned the whole inside of pc, also removed dial up modem lets see how she works
seems to be running alot faster since last night
hope she dont restart or freeze *crosses fingas*
-
dont put a fan in front of the computer k. so we can see if it was just overheating and restarting
-
omg i think that was all it was my pc is running faster
i got 3 programs open (which i couldnt do before) it would rerstart if i did
plus i been on for about half hour now and its not freezing or rerstarting
-
so it was either and/or both overheating or bad dail-up modem
-
thanxs for ur help guys i appreciate it and plus i learned a lot from u guys just helping me stuff i nver even knew about before and the good programs u guys suggested like hijackthis
-
uh ohh it restarted after like 45 minutes on longest i been on without restart its still running real fast but what the f**k is making it restart?
lol any other suggestions?
should i just try the remove cards and ram 1 at a time then seeing what happens when i run it?
-
ummm yea just remove the ram and turn your computer back on and see if it continues to restart if it does then turn off the machine and remove and replace another part
-
should i just try the remove cards and ram 1 at a time then seeing what happens when i run it?
That's what I suggested yesterday. Please reread ALL the posts. ;)
-
i know u did but i was just reinforcing it i guess u could call it, i wasnt trying to take u idea
-
I was wanting price to take my idea.
-
lol my bad
