Ethereal......... Do you have any sort of anti virus installed and running ?
Is this a self build or store bought ?
Is there any message displayed , before it shuts down?
Does it appear to be running hot ?

With only 2 days invested in it I would SERIOUSLY be considering a return. ;)
-
it is self built...
there was no warning. it just suddenly shut down
doesnt seem to be too hot but ill check that again
-
Oh, a self build. Well we are stuck working our way though this then.
Does this happen during gaming or other strenuous activity only?
What make power supply?
Have you tested the RAM (www.memtest86.com). If you do this you may need to disconnect all of the drives, add on cards, etc. to keep it running.
Did you check Event Viewer error logs?

MA friend sorry!!!
But wat i can advice u is to try and make sure that u hve no viruses on yo machine.Because these one can humper the booting of the machine. So u can try and install some heavy anti virus and scan yo PC.

And now the original poster has gone AWOL. Maybe he got it fixed. ::)
-
should you try load the motherboard default bios setup.
-
k guys thx for the posts but it still isnt fixed... it is a Brand new computer and it doesnt have any viruses on it according to norton antivirus.. and yes it happened when i was playing a game WoW to be precise... it has happened before when i was installing some software. I really dont no wat to do. I got told it could be overheating so i took the side panel of the case but it still happened..

You said it was new, then it was a self built. How about all the details on this poor machine? Does it have a genuine XP on it? SP2 and all updates?
-
k well it happens ONLY when gaming... the power supply is a antec Neo He500 500w, no i havent checked the event viewer logs (i dont no how :P) when i run the ram checker it says enter disk image source file name??? what do i put there?
o and it is not a registered windows xp but it does have sp2

Well , your machine looks to be ok , but why on earth wouldn't you have insisted on a real O/S instead of a pirated one ? Thats just asking for issues .
dl65 ::)
-
hmmm ok so ur saying it is because i have a pirated version??? then i must go and get a legal copy :) any suggestions on which o/s to get? xp, pro etc etc
-
A counterfeit XP and it doesn't run? How unusual.
www.memtest86.com allows you to download a file and create a bootable floppy or a bootable CD. Just boot with that in there and run the test on each RAM for an hour or so, then all together.
Here's some info on Event Viewer from the company you pirated the software from:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308427/
Did you check your temps? How about removing a side panel and blowing a fan directly in there?
Here's some good reading:

what exactly do i look for in the event viewer? i no i no i should have got a legal version... im still gonna get 1 this was just temporary
-
You're looking for the reason the machine shut down, if it is shown. Just read:

This is like herding cats. (http://www.comcen.com.au/~fed/crazy.gif)
1) Test your RAM.
2) Try the fan on the open case.
3) Disable Auto Reboot on System Failure & check your Event Viewer.
Let us know... ::)
