Title: Win98 Istall Error message
Post by: silverhawk on September 10, 2004, 10:22:24 AM
I am trying to re-install Win98,with the CD, after reformatting the hard drive.  The installation goes well until it reaches the section titled "Setting up hardware and finalizing settings".  After setting up hardware and plug and play, it requires a Restart.  When it restarts I receive an error message.
"Windows protection error. You need to restart your computer"
C:\WINDOWS\system\vmm 32.vxd: Missing/unable to load.
Restarting the computer brings me back to the same protection error screen.  Any suggestions on how to clear this error and complete the install?  Thanks
