Title: CD Drive Issue - "Error 4550"

I use Itunes as my music player/cd burner and recently my computer has been unable to burn cds no matter what program I use. It starts burning and then about 30 seconds in to it I can hear the disc slow down and it says that it has failed because of an error 4550.

does anyone know what i can do to fix my drive and burn cds?

How old is the drive? It could just be dead.
