hello i would like some advice on upgrading my processor. the current processor is an AMD 2200+ Skt A (462). I would like to know if A) my board will support a AMD Athlon XP (yes that is skt A) and if it will B) support a faster sempron (eg 3000+ or something)
I was going to over-clock it but for the price of a processor verses death for my PC i decided its about time i upgraded it.
I am also going to upgrade the power supply (PSU) to atleast a 300Watt ( please say if i will need a higher one)
My specs (according to sandra) are as follows:

10% of that information was useful... as to your question, I'll let someone more qualified answer it.
What is your graphics card? A card upgrade might give you more performance boost for your money.
-
(see next post, the list is a bit big sry)
Yes please stop it is not useful!
-
lol sry, changed it to the much more... to the point, sandra
-
the graphics card is :
ATI Radeon 9250 (what an amazing card... not)
**EDIT**
also i know a better graphics card would probably be better but, i want to do the processor 1st its getting a tad... old ( bought when it came out and it was like ace back then lol)
-
from the words of the G-MAN . Google is a beautiful thing ! Always try to research this "easy stuff" yourself, you will learn a whole lot more! Like me!!

any ,more questions, just post below*.
Get a 500W dual voltage PSU at least, to be safe*.

Get a 500W dual voltage PSU at least, to be safe*.
safe from what? lol naa just kiddin, i figured a 300w would do but was gonna go for a 400 maybe, dunno tho
-
with upgrades and the over clocking thing u like to do, be safe and go for the 500, though a GOOD 450 would also work I guess. It's a preference call on your part there. 300 is really kinda pushing it.
-
over clocking thing u like to do.
naa gave up on overclocking, anything that can kill stuff so easily is a bit annoying
(wanna see sum1 push it? watch this:
http://hackedgadgets.com/2006/01/07/exploding-overclocking-extreme-amd-duron-vaporizing/
IT EXPLODES, not sure if its real tho)
-
awesome! never saw that before but kinda reminded me of the last meal my ex-wife made for me !!! :D
-
I have a computer with a much worse processor, but fitted it out with a decent graphics card, and now it can play most games fairly well.
-
in the spirit of things here is a USB barbeque (well sortof)

(pidgeon english translation lol)
but anyway back to the topic...
how about...
300W PSU and either a sempron 3000+ (or similar) or a Athlon XP 2800+ (or similar)
my friend says it should work but you know what they say about things that start with "My Mate Says..."
-
I think the Athlon XP would be faster.
-
me too but the fear is breaking something (seriously i have the worst luck IN THE WORLD with this sort of thing... *puts on hard hat lol*)
hmm ok with that PSU? tryin to do this to a budget really lol you know what lifes like...
(I'm really angry too because some kid i know in canada has a PC which is like $6000 or so and hes 14 omg he doesnt even work!)
-
PS im gonna go to sleep now (im british so its 10:20 pm, i have a headache, feel ill, sore eyes etc etc *censored* that fool that coughed on me)
ill check any posts ASAP in the morning
-
You guys are wasting bandwidth. ::)
What is the motherboard make and model?
Yes, 300w is not enough.

P.S. what about with the sempron? would it be ok then? or have i gotta go for like 400W either way?
If you need more than that i can A) give you it from CPU-Z or B) try and look inside it (i really cant see the model although it is 100% SiS (it has that on it yet no model number... weird huh?))
also what sort of performance increase would i get if i put more ram in? (1GB or something)
-
I don't think extra ram would give much of a boost considering the rest of your system.

This graphics card needs only a 250w power supply, and costs about £30. I suspect it's faster than your current card, but I don't know for sure.
