Title: Formatting win 2000 Pro
Post by: busterwiseman on March 31, 2004, 04:54:08 PM
Hello, I am having problems with a Dell intel pentium 3 with windows 2000 pro. I have been frying to format the harddrive so I can go back to my windows 98se in which I have no problems. Could someone please tell me how to do it without having to buy a new harddrive? Thanks ever so much.

You have to delete the partion before your can format. 2000 uses a different file system (NTFS) than 98(fat32). You can do this by using the disk utility on the Win 2000 setup disk or using FDISK (on any win98 CD).  Once in Fdisk delete the current non-DOS partion and create new DOS partion (FAT32). Then insert win98 CD and format and run set up.
