Title: Installing Programs with Administration.
Post by: Neodudeman on October 02, 2006, 11:56:18 AM
Is there a way to install programs without getting administrative rights?

I want to do this mainly to protect my computer from programs randomly writing in the registry, and protect it from possible malicious code accessed through admin status.

I know that programs work just fine without installing with Admin properties. I have a special section in my My Documents folder just for installing programs under my non Admin account.

But some programs automatically ask for Admin Rights or else they won't install, or they will install, and roll back changes because you don't have admin.

Windows is so rediculous in that sense.

So is there anyway to get around it?

Just keep track of what you install, read license agreements and don't let other people use your PC.

If you want to have better control over what you can and can't install, get Linux...

I'm confused...but that doesn't take much.
If you have Admin rights you can install to any one account; a set of accounts or to all accounts.
This is why there is an Admin setting in XP.
It sounds like you are attempting to circumvent Admin rights or do you just mis-understand how they are used ? ?

Well, Basically I want to circumvent admin rights, but don't get me wrong, I have the admin account for my computer.

I did use linux for a while, but I dunno. I stopped. lol. I missed XP compatibility with everything.

What I Really want to do is install programs without letting them have complete access to the computer.

You can't. How else are you going to install the programs, then? They need admin access to write to the registry..

Grab Total Uninstall...it monitors ALL changes made when installing a program, records that and in the event of an un-install it gets rid of everything and restores the registry to it's prior state.
