Title: Force driver to load at startup?
Post by: ljsilver on October 20, 2006, 07:58:35 AM
Soyo k7vme motherboard, AMD Athlon 2100+ processor, 768MB ram, XP home.  Hello again.  My computer is not loading the NIC driver at startup, only on restart.  When I start up...no network adapter icons, no network adapter in device manager, no connection to the internet.  When I restart it's all good.  Every time.  I've tried bios update, network adapter update, bootvis, virus scans...the works.  Nothing is helping so far.  I got a bootlog of both the startup (no network adapter) and the restart (with network adapter) and did a line by line comparison of the two.  The only difference is that on the restart a driver was loaded that was not loaded on the initial startup.  fetnd5bv.sys.  Googled it and found that it is indeed a network driver, but even with the latest (I've tried previous also) version it still will not load on the first startup.  Is there some way I can force this driver to load every time?  Modify system.ini or boot.ini?  I've been dealing with this for some time now and it's starting to drive me nuts.  All help is appreciated!

There was a driver update distributed by windows update that has caused this type of problem for many. Try rolling back to a previous version of the driver.
