Title: Problems in IE/Firefox
Post by: wizz on November 12, 2006, 03:48:18 AM
Could anyone tell me what is happening here:-
This is my NTL home page in Firefox...this also happens in IE
Some pages do load correctly but others don't.
I have checked through both browser option, cleared cache etc, and have done a "repair" windows
But the problem still persists. It's like HTML has been switched off. The webpage components do not display correctly and also seem to cascade down from top to bottom in-line.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. ;D

I sometimes have the same sort of problem with many different sites.
Happens with MSN/Live, ATI/AMD support pages, Microsoft, Windizupdate, and probably some more.
It happens intermittently, and for apparently no reason, unless this counts - I notice that most of the time when this happens, my wireless connection icon says that it is connected with excellent signal strength, but says nothing about the speed, this also happens in network connection properties (left click icon in system tray).
The problem never happens when the speed is reported, but it sometimes doesn't happen when it isn't shown, if that makes sense.
Some other applications fail to connect entirely when this happens, such as Spybot:S&D, Spyware Blaster and Antivir.
Also, sometimes IE will connect to the page but will refresh it several times, then display an "unable to connect" page.  The network troubleshooter it directs me to reports no problems.
Apologis for the thread hijacking, but I just thought I'd let you know that there are other people with the same problem - I haven't made my own thread because this hardly ever happens with me, so it doesn't bother me so much, but if anyone finds a solution I'd be interested, I'll keep checking this thread.
Plus I hope that someone can help wizz, I'm just sorry I couldn't

This is caused by a failure to load or use the cascading stylesheets for the page in question.  What Firefox extensions are you using?  Some can disable or modify CSS.  Alternatively some other internet security program may be blocking .css pages for some inexplicable reason.

Flashgot, IE View, Google Web Accelerator, and ForcastFox.
Please bear in mind that I have been using these extensions for some time..with no trouble.
Please also bear in mind that this problem is duplicated in the IE browser too.
This does not happen to all pages, but it is random. My NTL home page always has this problem..sometime the linked pages will display correctly, sometimes they wont.

I'm seriously considering wiping my disk and starting again.

That might not be a bad idea; but why not try temporarily disabling your internet security software/firewall and reloading the rogue page.  Let us know if it makes any difference.

Did you not qualify for RC2 or not grab it in time ? ?

That build is gonna be challenging to say the least...
