Hey all... ;)
I have a laptop (Dell Inspiron 6400 - running Microsoft Windows XP Home 2002 SP2) and my brother just set up a D-Link wireless router (model number DI-524). It's security enabled.
My wireless card is an Intel PROset one and it detects the available wireless network, allows me to enter the necessary security code, and then tells me that it is connected but has limited or no connectivity. When I troubleshoot, it says that the network failed to assign an IP address, and advises me to see my administrator to correct the problem.
There are two other computers in this house (one lap, one desk) that both access the internet wirelessly through this router, so I know it works. What's up with my little laptop?

Im suffering the same problem with my computer as well but my router isnt D-link. Try unlpugging your router for a 10 seconds then plugging it back in. This is more of a networking topic but Hopefully Rob wil still find it ;)

Since two other computers work on that wireless connection, I doubt that turning the router off and on will make any difference, but might be worth a try.
Do you have any indication of signal strength?

Yup. It claims that the signal strength is "Excellent".

Try manually setting an IP address, subnet and gateway on that wireless card. Do you know how to do this? Do you know your network's settings? See the networking FAQ for more information. Alas there is no wireless networking FAQ (yet)!

like everyone else has said try entering a manuel IP make sure your router has not already used this. I would also check the network settings to see if it is enabled to assign IP address (DHCP)

If you do not know how to set up IP addresses, learn it because the problem ssems to be here

I went missing cause I gave up. But now I will try again! ;D
And this time, I will not fail. No indeed.
I will read the FAQ, assign all sorts of IP addresses, and insist that the universe fall in line.
And then I will report. My success, of course.
Edit: Actually I failed again. I have emailed D-Link tech support. Sorry about the drive-by guys, it wasn't meant to be. We got a non-wireless router that I could use without difficulty, so I kinda forgot about this issue. :-/

Not yet, nope. I'm waiting to hear back from D-Link.
