multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

If I were to add /SOS as a switch, would that slow down my loading times?

That does not answer my questions. I know how to edit the Boot.Ini.

Detailed description of the data execution prevention feature in Windows XP SP2
(http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;nl;875352)

The /NoExecute=OptIn switch is a switch that enables the DEP ability (SP 2) which in turn should cause harmful code not to be written to the RAM..

Currently for newer AMD processors only. Intel hasn't caught up yet.

I certainly hope that I will not have to keep answering my own questions..

/SOS does seem to have a slight impact on booting times.

If you have multiple start entries or start options, you may have to manually modify the Boot.ini file for your computer. To disable DEP by modifying the Boot.ini file, change the /noexecute policy level to alwaysoff....msoft cpoyright2004....and why is it that they bring out a sp and somewhere along the line it has to be modified?

Nothing needs editing, Merlin. I was merely curious as to what that switch was for. Disabling it would compromise the new security feature.
