Hello there. I'll get straight to the point.
My NIC's LEDS (green and yellow) are flashing simultaneously, and neither Windows nor Linux can detect network connection. On WinXP though for a sec there it shows as if it was acquiring network address. I know for sure that the cable is OK, I'm using it right now as i type. The problem is on my notebook, Acer Aspire 3630. Windows XP SP2 fresh installation... I've tried Knoppix, Ubuntu Live CDs to check whether the problem was with windows.
any suggestions?
Thanks!
edit:
it happened after i've reinstalled windows. strange, isn't it? well... maybe it doesn't have anything to do with it.
don't remember dropping or damaging the notebook in anyway...
my internet connection is through a local gateway, the IP addresses are assigned by DHCP

Check in device manager and see what kind of problem is indicated.
-
done that. "device is working properly" tried reinstalling the driver.. same result
by the way the NIC is "SiS 900 based pci fast ethernet adapter"
-
After reinstalling windows, did you reinstall the NIC drivers. Or is it a windows generic driver?
-
i've backed up the drivers. i've installed the ones i used before the reinstallation of windows.
-
If the problem were specific to Windows, you'd expect Knoppix to work...
-
anyways thanks guys. i appreciate your help. i think the slot is damaged or the lan card itself. have to take it to the service center.

A new card won't hurt the pocketbook much...

Ditto Patio. Try replacing the NIC 1st. It'll save some major $ and isn't hard to to. They usually come with instructions.
