Title: Shortcut Icons issues...
Post by: soccermandude on December 16, 2006, 05:40:13 PM
Hey everyone, recently all my icons on my desktop and in the start Menu have disappeared (except a few such as iTunes and MSWord).  I can't figure out what happened.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Sorry I said that wrong, all the real icons have disappeared so instead they all have the same icon.  Its the icon when windows doesn't recognize a program, I don't know how to describe it.

There is a program called 'TWEAK UI' for windows XP.

I believe your talking about the "unknown file" icon

are any of these icons a shortcut, is the program it is looking for in the proper directory.?

have you deleted any files lately?

When did this start? what anti-virus-spam have you used/runned?

Indeed.
Get TweakUI from here (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx), and go to Repair --> Rebuild icons --> Repair now to restore all icons.
Hope this helps.

I was laughing about how Microsoft Lists something then...Disclaimer. ;D

Note: We take great care to ensure that PowerToys work as they should, but they are not part of Windows and are not supported by Microsoft.

No problem.
I use TweakUI myself, it's pretty useful.
And yes, the way M$ lists Powertoys is quite funny.
I think they were created by independent programmers not for M$, and then M$ bought the programs and hosted them on its site.
Something like that?

"runned" is a word depending on what part of the country you are in, and so is "gooder" wich is "more better" than "Good"
