Title: Windows 98 FAT Problem
Post by: Weaves on September 30, 2004, 09:53:19 AM
 ???
My computer will not load windows 98. It gets so far and then just hangs. An 'expert' has looked and told me that I have somehow changed it to try and read my files in FAT16 instead of FAT32. Is this possible? If so how can I fix it (my expert is unable to)? ???

This article is slightly related to your issue:

Is there a FAT16 to FAT32 file converter for Windows 95? (http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000142.htm)

I have tried re-loading 98 (related article suggest upgrade from 95 to 98 ) but same problem occurs i.e. during load up the pc just starts 'churning' and nothing else happens.

You are saying your computer starts to shake violently?

That cannot be good, you should download diagnostic tools for your Hard Disk Drive to see if it is functioning properly.

The user can purchase the Partition Magic utility which will allow them to convert their hard disk drive partitions from FAT16 to FAT32 as well as change other aspects of the drive.

Your answer may lie with Partition Magic (http://www.powerquest.com/partitionmagic/)

Will try partition magic. Thanks for the help!

Well, if your computer has a FAT problem, a little exercise won't hurt..  ;)
