For the month of January and the New Year we thought it would be interesting to see how many users are planning on upgrading to the next Windows operating system, Microsoft Windows Vista.
Feel free to post any comments of why you’re upgrading and/or why you don’t plan to upgrade.
All past monthly polls and results can be found on the Computer Hope poll page (http://www.computerhope.com/polls.htm).

No, sticking with W2K so I used the XP selection.
-
For me I have two Selections: Don't Meet System Requirements and Maybe. Even If I had the system requirements I dont know if I'd upgrate to it ;).
-
Pass.
-
I have 98, 98se, w2k, xp, and *nix. But I'll look out the window and check. Nope, the horizon is dark. No vista, and no VISTA. ;D
-
I voted ...yes ..... but to qualify that , I am planning on purchasing a new pc sometime in the comming year , to take advantage of the newest technology .
I would have Vista on that machine ...given its reasonably bug free by then .
I will continue to use XP on my other machines.

I voted XP.I can't spell Vista and I don't know it means View. :-?
And furthermore............................ .........
-
I have the express upgrade, all I have to pay is for shipping, so I'll pay for that, and just keep the CD for if I ever need to upgrade, but I'd prefer not to.

I think I will, for several reasons.
The first reason is that it's always good to have a full OS disc for when Windows fails. I have one, but having more to fall back on never hurt anyone.
The big one, though, is that I want to assemble a cheap machine, and use it as a first line of defense: When I want to download something I'm not sure about, I'll put it on the cheap box If it doesn't crash it, I put it on my computer. To do that, though, I'd need another OS Disc. I'm not sure, but I think we've been upgrading since Windows 3.1. At least, our only Win95 disc is an Upgrade. :-/
-
I voted No, staying with XP, but I would like to have seen some time period stated in the question. I'm sure I'll eventually upgrade, but I have no plans to do it in the near term, probably not during 2007.
-
Cheers on post 3000, soybean! ;D
-
It costs money to upgrade, right? Slap-dab out of that stuff. Besides, I don't trust Mikey to sell me something stable. I'm not yet brave enough to go *nix, so I'm stuck in the middle again.
-
I meet the system requirements but I'd feel more comfortable with 2Gb of RAM.
I'll stick with XP in classic mode thanks, Vista is not on the horizon for me any time soon, if at all.
-
For now ill be sticking with my current config of Microsoft Windows Vista Beta (Broken)
And Previous Version of Microsoft Windows (XP Not Broken)
i have no choice , you cant Edit the Vista Boot loader from XP ...
-
Will have to upgrade sooner or later. Hazard of the job.
-
Probably no upgrade until I get another machine (the current ones don't meet specs). Besides, I've reached my level of incompetence with XP. (see The Peter Principal (http://pespmc1.vub.ac.be/PETERPR.html)) ;D

Don't hold your breath...RC1 was documented to have over 240 bugs some of which i found on my testbench machine.... :o
-
I have a Macbook and will be upgrading to 10.5 in the spring
-
So you won't be going to Vista i presume ? ? ?
-
Sticking with XP pro until they iron out the bugs in Vista (and when computer games move over too, hehe). ;D
-
Nope, XP will take me to the next century. ;D
-
Well, my computer is only 500MHz so I don't meet the requirements. But even if I did, I wouldn't upgrade because:
A. I'm perfectly happy with Windows XP
B. Vista is too *#$&*&@# expensive!!!

-
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
And I agree, Vista is expen$ive.
-
I am sticking with xp but I am buying a new notebook with the free vista upgrade...I will be ready at least when the battle begins.
::)
-
Too expensive, I'm staying with XP.
And why are we replacing the U in Unix with an asterisk * ?
Vista looks cool, but I must admit, I am disappointed with how there are like, 5 different versions of one operating system. Why cant it all be included in one OS on one disk?
-
There are 8 actually...
patio. 8-)
-
I've also heard that all 8 versions, or maybe only 7 (?) (excluding Vista Basic?) will be included on one disk.
The thing you will pay for will be the key to unlock the versions.
However, the problem is then that if the key is cracked, all of the flavours are available.
Maybe just a rumour?
And why are we replacing the U in Unix with an asterisk * ?
*nix represents all versions of Unix.
Right?
Or wrong?
-
You have to unlock Vista versions? I smell a warez video game.
"Congratulations! You have beaten Level 1! Here is the code for Vista Basic:"
;D
-
And why are we replacing the U in Unix with an asterisk * ?
Shorthand for all the Unix variants; e.g. Linux, Minix, Dynix, Ultrix, Sinix, and all the other bits and bobs that don't contain the letters i, n and x. (E.g. BSD, HP-UX, AIX, Solaris.)

Haha.

Actually Calum i believe you are correct on all flavors being on one Disk...
patio. 8-)
-
I have XP Pro & I think i`ll stay with that for now anyway. :)

Oh good.
So I wasn't imagining things yet again then.

Be wary of Vista. It has been designed with HUGE DRM security and performance issues that should be of concern to any but the most casual users. These are showstopper problems that are just now coming to light.
Read the forums at www.grc.com and badvista.fsf.org for more info.
-
how much is vista? and what are the different versions? please dont tell me we need to buy different versions in order to run different programs...
-
No, you won't need to buy different versions. But, you should carefully consider the differences among the various versions before deciding which to get. Here's some info from the mothership: The Editions (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/getready/editions/default.mspx)
-
Do not like at all what I am hearing about Vista, and how MS is using it as a policeman on my PC. My next upgrade will be to Apple.
-
Hello, gmanto,
Windows Vista will only cause problems, ideally, if you're into illegal software. Of course, there are bugs, but I haven't run into any, i.e. MS hasn't accused me of theft. :)
