Title: Video card?
Post by: 00unknow00 on February 06, 2007, 05:27:41 PM
I have 2 computers, the one I'm using right now has ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 and the other computer has nVIDIA GeForce 6100,and I want to change the video card from ATI to nVIDIA . My computer is an eMachine (T6410 )with 1.37GB of RAM,
how can I install nVIDIA GeForce 6100 to my computer?
What will happen to the other computer without the nVIDIA GeForce 6100?
THNX

Without Videocard (nVIDIA GeForce 6100) in your PC there's no display and the computer won't work.

If your videocard is PCI type then insert taht into the PCI slot. Then install the driver of of your video card.

Not necessarily.  He may have onboard video to which he could revert to.

00unknow00, what type of card is it (AGP, PCI, PCI Express)?  What do you plan to do with the ATI card?  Any reason you can't put it in the other computer?

the nVIDIA is a PCI card.. which I don't really know what it stands for. but basically, I have my computer and I want to sell the other computer but I want to keep its graphic card so I can play better games. I don't know anything about my ATI card ( the one that is currently on my computer ) I want to put my ATI on my other computer so I can take the nVIDIA and put it on my current computer

If the ATI is also a PCI card they can be swapped with no problem...you will have to un-install the existing drivers and replace them with the appropiate ones...

PCI is a slot style designation. It means that card can go in any machine with available PCI slots.
AGP is another style as is PCI Express.

Just insert that into the PCI slot. Then install the driver of the nVIDIA video card

Both the Xpress 200 and the GeForce 6100 are integrated graphics cards AFAIK.

Please disregard the misinformation given by shengton.  ::)

Calum is right that this is an onboard chips with the eMachine so nothing can be "swapped out" from it. We don't know any details about the other machine but it is probably the same situation.

IF you had a removable video card you would need to remove the drivers for it BEFORE adding the drivers for a new video card, rather than just adding more drivers as shengton (poorly) advised.

wanna buy a new vid card. What should I get AGP, PCI or PCIe? And whats the difference in PCI and PCIe? Does the PCIe fit into the PCI or AGP slot?

Krytin, please make a new thread for your question.
Thanks.
