First, I'm wondering why you put this in the Internet Explorer section?

What version of Excel are you talking about?  Do you have Microsoft Office?  What version?  Do you have your Office CD?

Until the release of Office 2007, Microsoft has never distributed Office via download.  It had to be purchased on CD.  That policy is changing with Office 2007; it can be obtained via download.  As far as I know, you can use it under trial status for 30 days before registering if and PAYING for it.  However, if you do not intend to buy it, I suggest you do not download it.  I've heard it is very difficult to completely uninstall.  And, it should not be installed on a computer with another version of Office installed.

If you need to open Excel files, but don't want to pay for MS Excel, try >OpenOffice.org< (http://www.openoffice.org).  It's free, and pretty good.  Big download though.
