Title: Laptop USB Ports

Can anyone help? my laptop USB ports will not work my computer tells me that they are working ok,but anything i plug in won work.  :'(Short of a new motherboard which i have been told will cost between £300 and £400 is there anything else i can try. My laptop is an Acer Travelmate 4050 and is just out of warranty.

Check the ports for dust, clean any dust out of them.
What have you tried in them?
Do the devices not work at all?
Or does, for example, your optical mouse light up?
Just an example.

You could also try the following:
In Device Manager scroll down to the bottom where the USB roots and hubs are listed.
Right click each one and select remove/uninstall.
You will recieve an error message...ignore it.
Do this for all USB listings.
Power down and restart. Windows will automatically re-install the USB drivers.

Thanks for your prompt replies. None of my USBports are working at all i have tried my camera,printer,satnav scanner nothing works.Have done as you said and tried unstalling USB hubs etc still no joy,then tried cleaning as well.  regards Tom

Sorry i cant tell you what happened before this my printer just stopped working i thought it was the printer at fault but it wasn't,so i cant give you a reason for the usb ports not working they just stopped.
