Title: Right Clicking the Desktop
Post by: Dukes on March 15, 2004, 09:05:19 PM
whenever i click on an open space in the desktop it shows the hourglass and i have to wait for like 3 seconds for the menu to show up. it doesn't do this when i right click on an icon though, or anything else, for that matter.  Anyone know how to fix this, or what causes it?

Dukes,

What operating system are you running? In addition when the menu pulls up does it have any more options then the below options.

- Active Desktop
- Arange Icons
- Line up Icons
- Refresh
- Paste
- Paste Shortcut
- Undo copy
- New
- Properties

In addition how many icons are on your desktop? Finally for these type of issues we also ask that you run through each of the basic troubleshooting steps found in the below document.

I've Defragged, ran virus scans, ran spyware protecting programs. I just tried the deleting .tmp files.  It helped slightly, but it still waits a couple seconds.  It doesn't really affect anything, but it's still annoying when i switch the colors/wallpapers that I have to wait. Patience is a virtue that I'll have to learn a little better.

Dukes,

Do you happen to have any type of Microsoft Windows XP Theme or Theme package installed? If so this can definately slow the computer down, you may wish to temporarly disable it. Other then that at this time nothing else is comming to mind.

Any other users have recommendations or thoughts for Dukes?
