Title: DOS prompt in XP?
Post by: MTN889 on March 15, 2004, 09:23:34 PM
Hello! I'd like to know if it was possible to DOS prompt in windows XP, like right before you log on to XP you have to prompt the "<C:\>WINDOWS" command, bringing you to windows. Or, singing off to DOS in windows XP. Either way, it would be cool for me, because it would be like the old days and I would be able to play my Dark forces game and duke nukem game smoother. And for the nostalgia as well :D. Anyways, do you know if its possible to do, besides that artificial stuff thats a fake DOS?

Unlike previous versions of Windows you cannot exit windows and go to a MS-DOS prompt before or after you log in or out of windows. Many of the older dos games you should still however be able to play from Windows XP. But Windows will still be running in the background. Additional information about getting MS-DOS games to run in Windows can also be found on the below document.

Yeah understandable, you can always tweak the DOS program such as allocating it more memory if it seems to laggy. In addition you could also try the "Other Recommendations" section on the bottom of the link we posted earlier.
