Also, think about this upgrade, is this Celeron D actually faster than your P4?

You are trading some level 2 cache and other differences for a marginal increase in clock speed. If gaming is the issue, this may not be the solution. It may work, but it may or may not be worth the expense if it does.
Did you read what it said about the Celeron with a 400 Mhz. bus?

Celeron and Celeron D are not the same.
Besides, this upgrade would not make a big difference, the P4 not only has more cache but is a better design, so is faster at the same clock speed.
It would be a little faster, but not worth spending money on.
If you want an upgrade, buy a new motherboard, that's my advice.

A pentium 4 with H/T is alot better than a celeron D, Although its newer celeron D dosent have dual cores or two threads

Yes, that is faster than either your current CPU or the Celeron.
Again, I recommend a new motherboard instead, it's probably not worth the cash to buy this CPU.

It is still not worth it.
Just save the $25 towards a new motherboard etc.

It's just a fathers day budget for now about $250. Some guy is selling these specs for 200. I might bring him down 30-40 bucks or so.What do you mean by limited?

I mean it's a fairly good CPU, but not by the standards of the newest ones.
It'd be a good upgrade though, and if you can get it for $200 or less it's still worth it, you won't find much better for that price.

In the meantime time this cpu that i was telling you about (calum) or anyone that can assist. The p4 2.4ghz ht that it is here in the previous posting, to put that one in do i have to flash the bios or anything of that nature for it to work? Or i can just replace it with the old one and the pc will detect it?

You should just be able to replace it and it will work with the motherboard, not too sure about the heatsink though.

Ok, thx. What will happen if the heatsink i have doesnt work for it? Will i need to add a new layer of thermal compound if it doesnt? Or better off getting a new heatsink for the cpu? Does it have to be compatible with the mother board or with the cpu? I believe the cpu. Sorry for all the questions and thx for your help once again.
