Title: Apple OS on Windows Computer?
Post by: Imperial on June 02, 2007, 01:41:22 PM
Just a quick question:

My friend has told me it is possible to install and run the latest Apple OSX on a Windows computer.

He claims to be downloading it right now (or well, a few days ago) and that it was around 4.7GB when torrenting.

Is this possible to do? If so, which is well, better? (XP Home Edition or Apple)

Well, you can download Linux via torrents and burn the .ISO onto a CD and boot with the CD to install Linux. I'm not sure about MAC though...
Ask your friend what type of file he's downloading. If it's an .ISO file then it's possible he downloading it illegally

That's a pretty cool program. I installed it yesterday. It took a while to install though. And all those files it modified scares me!
I'm afraid to think what would happen to the system if I tried to uninstall.....

Ya, I noticed that. But what if you install other programs afterward? ???
How far back will system restore remember anyhow?

I just like the tool bar that zooms in on the icons when you mouseover. :) I also like getting away from the bubbly look of xp.

This whole thing is very VERY wrong

If you have problems with Windows wearing Macs cloths, and you uninstall it, and problems still remain, click Start>Run
and in the Run dialog box, type
sfc /scannow
Have your Windows XP CD ready, you will be prompted for it.

There is one thing you could try visit the following site and read up on it:
http://nothickmanuals.info/doku.php?id=minivmac (http://nothickmanuals.info/doku.php?id=minivmac)

One of these day i'll probably try it, if you do let us know how it goes.

Oh! I've used that

I could only get OS7 to work on it, maybe with more effort, you can get up to OS9 on it. OSX probably would not handle very well

Well I'm using an iMac at the moment yet I'm using a windows OS. I am achieving this by downloaded anadd-on from Mac.com called bootcamp (from memory.) This program allows you to access both Windows and Mac OSes. It is currently in a BETA stage but it will come standerd on macs when Leopard is released. I'm not entirely sure if it works for Windows but I'll look into legal ways for you.

James.

In short: No.

In long: Yes.  IF you're willing to build a PC with parts that Apple actually have drivers for.  Which isn't much, but it's still, theoretically, do-able.

There are hacks around on torrents, but they're illegal, and just hacks, so they're nothing like the full O/S.

It's because Apple own the hardware pool they use, and as such, they only have a small pool they need to write drivers for, and as it isn't cost effective for other firms to write Apple drivers, they don't.  So Apples' "It just works" slogan works because they choke the hardware down to a small elite.  When you come to look at OSX as just an OS it becomes a lot more restricting, as it can only be used for the hardware Apple own.

So in a way, it makes Microsoft look like nice guys.

One thing to consider (taking every chance I have to get Apple out of peoples homes until they make it better!) is that if you put the Apple OS on a PC, you can and will have problems with drivers. The Mac OS does not support drivers for PC hardware well at all, let alone does it handle Hardware very well. Thus, making it difficult to use your computer.
