Title: Hibernation on a Laptop
Post by: Paint-it-Black on June 07, 2007, 11:38:15 AM
I was using my father's laptop and surfing the internet when it popped up with "preparing to hibernate". I was on a site i always go to with no trouble and i've done it a million times on his computer so i don't think it was the site. i wasn't inactive for more than about 10 seconds, and the only other thing i was on was a guide for a game i always go to, even on his computer. So his laptop hibernated and now it won't turn back on. i press the power button and nothing. i cannot conceive how else to turn the damned thing on, any suggestions? fyi i've never used hibernate so i know virtually nothing about it.

edit: i tried again. I noticed that every time i push the power button, the battery light blinks...but i've got the adapter plugged into the laptop and it's been plugged in, giving it power, all day. in fact, it was in when this happened so *censored*?

Tried spacebar to wake it up? Or move the mouse a bit.

Sounds like there might be a problem if it went into hibernation while plugged in, was there power to the plug it's pluged into?  Is the lead ok?  Normally laptops are configured to switch to hibernation to save battery power.

You can adjust the settings in the system part of control pannel I do believe.

Sounds like the AC adapter has gone bad. It failed to charge the battery so when the battery got low it hibernated. Of course, the adapter might just be unplugged.
