Post by: dirk101 on June 30, 2007, 12:07:39 PM
If i have a computer that receives internet, and i install a wireless NIC in it, can it transmit internet to another computer with a wireless NIC? As on a PC to PC cable connection

Do you mean you want to give a computer Internet through another computer?
I'm not really smart at that kind of thing so I just wanted to make sure we understand correctly. Someone else will come along.  ;)

seems i saw something like that on tv a while back.  the guy installed some kind of new card in his computer and sent the signal to another computer that had a desktop wireless adapter in it....so, i'd say yes

Yes, i mean giving a computer internet through another computer. Since it's possible through cabling, i'm wondering if it's possible through wireless before i go buying anything.
I have a 4 computers network at home, and i'm trying to find a way around changing the whole network to wireless just for one laptop.

If you do not have a router or an accesspoint or something that can transmit wireless Internet than it is impossible.
A computer can only receive and send wireless Internet connection with use of a router or accesspoint.
Maybe you can buy some kind of network card that can do this but I've never heard of one and it would be a silly idea.
Then it would be better to buy a router (or accesspoint).
