I vote #4. If you decide you voted wrong, you can change your vote.

I vote for #4 as well.

Ditto, #4. Though most 'spammers' seem to post once and then leave, or create a duplicate account. Also they may have dynamic IPs.
I've always wondered, though this isn't exactly the way to ask. If a dynamic IP is banned when under X's control, say 111.222.333.444. Then what happens if Y was assigned that IP address? For his session would he also be banned or what?

Click on the links! Buy what they offer! Always!
No, not really.
We're working on a new system to deal with spam, at the minute most of the time the links are deleted, the thread is locked, and admin is notified, which often results in the spammer being banned.
Deleting the account serves no real purpose because they have already been banned, or am I missing something?
-
Even after all that, the topics are often left in place. They should be deleted. Deleting the account would also remove any links that may have been placed in the profile.
-
I choose #4. Does anyone ever click the links? If they do, they're not too bright.
-
We do have a lot of very inexperienced guests and users who may not know any better, and are easily taken in by a slick talker. Yhey may not even recognize the spam for it is.
-
i voted number 5, because i was under the impression you couldn't delete users accounts even with certain moderator privelages, meaning, i thought you had to just remove the link, and lock the topic, notifying admin of the spam, and waiting for them to delete the account. but ok... i guess i was wrong.

Moderators cannot delete accounts.
We can move, merge, split, sticky, lock and delete threads, and modify or delete individual posts.
We can't do anything to any members.

...... and account deletion.

Members who SPAM the boards, and seem to be actual users (not bots) are warned.
Bots (recognized since they post their ad, and never come back) are immediately banned.
Accounts remain intact, but the user is no longer able to access the forums.
If you see SPAM, please report it, don't hesitate. If someone breaks the forum rules, you can also use the report feature.
Once we receive SPAM notifications, we remove it from the public immediately using our new plan (which, so far, is working out alright) so it doesn't clutter.
-
When it comes to spammers I have zero tolerance as most of you know, I also voted for 4. Although, moderators as we discussed in the moderator section I think it would be best that instead of deleting you move them to the invisible spam section so I can deal with the full banning. :) Once completed they can be removed.

With the new SPAM folder Nathan has created, the removal of spam should now be a lot more efficient around here.

Monty Python should be aghast at the sudden turn of events...
