Title: Mouse pointer acting irregularly
Post by: silkie on July 21, 2007, 09:16:49 AM
I have recently had problems with my mouse pointer suddenly jumping and jerking about, only vaguely following  the mouse movement.  The background web page when this happens seems to freeze as well.

It reverts back to normal after a short while, and after much mouse moving and key tapping by me.

I use Firefox and have a cordless mouse.  Windows XP SP2.

Any help appreciated.

This can also be caused by interference from other devices such as cordless phones etc.
Try re-orienteering any electronic devices near the computer.
Some of the better cordless devices also have channel settings if yours does run it on a different channel...

You could also try a PS2 mouse as a test.
Does it happen when you're not connected to the internet?
Does it happen in safe mode?
Is your computer free of viruses etc?

Download & run ccleaner then run a couple of online scans.
Ccleaner Slim (http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds.aspx)
Ewido/AVG Anti-Spyware Online Scan (http://www.ewido.net/en/)
Panda Activescan (http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm)
