I really hope someone can help me here as i am at my wits end.
I installed a new MoBo + HDD and DVD drive , to begin with I had an error message
"NTLDR" is missing press ctrl , alt + delete to restart. So after some advice from another post I stripped it down and re-installed everything again and hey PRESTO I no longer get the error message but my problem is that the computer still switches off after about a minute but previously before i stripped it down the computer was switching off after about 30 seconds.I don't even get a chance to install my XP O/S
I have checked all cables and connectors are secure to no avail. The computer will start to install the O/S and then cut off after about a minute.
Any help would be most appreciated
Many thanks in advance

Reseat the memory and make sure it's in there good. Then try running a memory test to see if one of your memory modules is bad.

The power supply could be bad.

I tried removing the ram (i've got 2 sticks of 1Gig ram brand new - team elite gaming ram) and put 1 in at a time and in the different banks to no avail and the PSU is only a couple of months old.
There was no problems with the computer switching off before the new hardware was installed.

Check your cpu fan, heat sink fitment & thermal paste.

just tried that and got the original message " NTLDR is missing press ctrl alt + delete to restart then it just swwitched off again so I left it switched off for about half an hour and tried switching it on again and it started the install for about 45 seconds and then switched itself off AGAIN!!!

Go into BIOS and check your temps, stay there for a while and see if it shuts down.

I tried what you suggested and i have noticed that when it starts up it runs about 73 degrees and it will shut down about 96 degrees , so I think you have hit the jackpot
the CPU is totally goosed
