I have an ACER pc, running windows xp with service pack 2. Some internet sites run fine, others (ie. windows hotmail, some online shopping sites I use) will bring up the original home screen but as soon as I try to log in it just brings up a blank white screen with the little 'done' text in the bottom left hand corner.
I'm sure it's just a setting or something to do with the avast antivirus software I've loaded (which I have now removed) but I haven't a clue how to sort it.

Have you tried resetting your browser to the defaults?
Here's the method for IE6, IE7 would be much the same I think.
1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. Security tab
6. Reset all 4 security zones to Default
1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. Privacy
6. Restore 1 Default button
1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. Advanced
6. Restore 1 Default button
You may need to do the following as well
1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. General tab
6. Remove cookies, temporary files and history
Kudos to Raptor.

Thanks for the reply, tried that but hasn't worked

The little 'done' text in the bottom left hand corner doesn't neccesarily mean it's really done.
Try waiting for a bit longer.

I have tried waiting, the green bar finishes loading at the bottom of the screen then it's still just a blaNK WHITE SCREEN
