Title: Some windows updates could not be installed

I recently formatted my computer..Xp operating system. Some of my win updates installed, but theres quite a few when trying to install I get a message " some updates could not be installed"
I searched Microsoft and found the info to download and install WUAGENT.exe, did that but I get the message I didnt need to install because it was already installed, the 2nd option was to force install, can anyone explain to me where to copy and paste to force install?

Some of the updates may not have been installed because they require other updates prior to their installation...

Have you tried running Windows Update and selecting those via Custom instead of Express?
