every time i put a cd in my computer, my comp says YOU NEED A CD DIVE TO PLAY CD'S. so i checked it out in device manager, and the drive is there. and there is no better upgrade available on the net.. so how can i get my computer to recognize my dvd/cd-rom driver????
Sony Vaio
Microsoft Vista Home Premium (Which Blows)
the cd driver is a - Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-850S ATA Device
-
If you scroll down the page to the rectangular box named 'Download Guided Help' 127 kb download. This is an auto fix for windows XP and Vista Beta...It may work with your Vista. Just click on the program and follow
the instructions
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
-
It didnt do anything for vista. Is there anyway to uninstall vista, and install XP???? and if i did that, would my cd drive read again???
-
Check, if you have DMA enabled...

DMA was enabled on both of them. so i turned them off. then enabled them again. and still got nothing.
-
DMA should be enabled
What do you have listed in Device Manager> IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers?
-
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 27DF
Intel(R) 82801GBM/GHM (ICH7 - M Family) Ultra ATA Storage Controller - 27C4
-
Try updating drivers for both of them. If Intel site says, they are up to date, do it anyway. Uninstall current drivers, and install fresh ones.
-
ok, i uninstalled them, but how do i install new ones?
-
Did you download new drivers?
-
i dont know how, or what to look for..
-
First of all, restart your computer, and see if Windows will find correct drivers...
-
i restarted the computer, and it tried installing a new driver, but it failed and said to get ahold of the company that made it or whatever to trouble shoot it... so if i delete vista, can i put xp on my computer?
-
Do you have Windows XP CD?
-
Neither XP nor Vista should need drivers for a CDRom or a burner.
Try that drive in another machine to make sure it isn't the problem.
I would also try another IDE cable...
-
Download Intel Chipset Identification Utility from here:
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/sb/cs-009266.htm
and post back with results.

Neither XP nor Vista should need drivers for a CDRom or a burner.
I've been trying to get him updates for his IDE controllers, not for his burner.
You may be right about other stuff, anyway.
-
The link you gave me didnt have anything for vista
-
Well, it looks like your system configuration may not support Vista.
You upgraded from XP, right?
BEFORE you did it, did you check your system compatibility with Vista?
-
no, the computer came with vista installed in it.
