Title: Cannot delete REGEDIT file (CLSID)
Post by: Douglas Hursh on April 13, 2004, 12:27:18 PM
I have anti-virus software AVG 6.0 and avast; both reveal no virus'.

Ad-aware: everytime I use it, it comes up with pat least] one object recognized:  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{DDFFA75A-E81D-4454-89FC-B9FD0631E726}.  Ad-aware reveals it to be "VX2.BetterInternet, which is an VX2 varient, malware. Causes popups and may install unsolicted software."  As many times as I use ad-aware and quarantine/delete this file, it shows up again on the next scan.

This VX2 file has resulted in numerous cookies, which also shows up in ad-aware.

I have gone into REGEDIT to delete this CLSID file, and when I highlight this file and delete it, it does disappear.  However, when I re-enter REGEDIT, it is there again.  I cannot get rid of this file.

Any suggestions?  Thank you for your time and help in this.

I use WINDOWS ME.

Boot into Safe Mode and run Ad-aware. 95% of the time, Ad-aware will be able to remove everything in Safe Mode.
