For the month of December we thought it would be interesting to see how many social networking sites you're on. With the increased popularity and available choices out there it's not uncommon for users on the Internet to have a profile setup on multiple social networking sites such as Blogger, LinkedIn, MSN Groups, MySpace, StumbleUpon, Yahoo Groups, YouTube, etc. Feel free to comment about what social network sites you're on or not on, what you like about them or don't like about them, and/or post your social networking profile links.

I am a member of only one social site: Orkut.
It is the most popular one in our college.
-
The only site I am a member of is YouTube. I don't really participate in anything though. I've uploaded a few videos, but that's. I mostly use my account to watch and create playlists of my favorite videos. I do have a MySpace account, but I never really use it and haven't logged-in in months.
-
More than five.
MySpace and other such social network sites, and 6 forums.
-
Excluding forums ----- zero.
-
I'm guessing the option "zero" should have been included?

Excluding forums ----- zero.

I selected 3, and now I must defend myself:
Okay, I have a myspace ACCOUNT, but do not have a myspace. My brother uses Myspace to post his pictures and videos, hes in France at the moment... so calling him is a little bit difficult.
I use Blogger (through my Google account) but not often at all, specifically since I started my own blogsite.
I now use my own blog system, and site. Actually, its a computer in my basement... sitting, waiting for incoming Port 80 requests from my friends... This is, if it works right (Linux is proving itself evil at the moment), what I will use as a primary social network type site. (Of course, I dont feel like being tracked down... so I wont publicly share the address until I am sure the server is secured.)
-
Umm.... Isn't a forum a type of social networking? ??? ??? ??? I'm not sure how it's not.
Or am I missing the definition?
-
I use one - Myspace.
But, I not use it as a social networking site, I hate the thing.
I use it solely to keep in touch with some friends who refuse to get instant messaging.

I guess it kind of is, isnt it?
Huh, never thought of it that way. But then again, I counted other forums...
-
well, if it is considered a social networking site, then the first ten people, who said they aren't a member of any social network, or only one, may need to change their votes..... :P Or maybe I need to change my vote?
For me, I'm a member of Computer Hope, Facebook, MySpace, Linux Questions, PHP Builder, and MSN Messenger. Plus the occasional forum, irc, or messenger I subscribe to so I can ask specific questions or communicate with a friend.
-
I am not a member of any organisation that would have me therefore my vote for none stands...
-
My apologies again. I know I had it marked down to have zero or none as an option but somehow (probably in my haste) I left it out. It has been added to the polls.

Don't you have to be on the CH social network to be able to vote though? Everyone should vote at least one, then... right?..... ;)
-
LOL ...... A big resounding None............ I simply don't have the time .
Cheers

In regards to the comments about a forum being a social network. It's an interesting thought and something that could be debated. However, I believe and I think most also agree that a forum is more of a community then it is a social network. This poll is considering social networks as sites such as MySpace, Facebook, and the other big sites mentioned earlier and in other peoples posts.
-
I only use MSN and Hyves so I voted for two, though I'm not sure if MSN can be counted as a social network.:)
-
Excluding Forums and Messengers, only MySpace. But if you include all of those it's about 10 or so...
-
Zero.
-
you can't have none to post here :P

My Yahoo 360 is outfitted by virtue of having been the 1st. The MySpace page has cobwebs in the corners, and if you listen really hard, you can hear the wind softly howling. Just don't have the time, & I have a friend whose myspace page practically tosses out penny candy & treats to those who visit, so until I can buff it up right, I'm letting the webs take over (brushing them aside to answer people). Recently I joined Facebook, because Microsoft had a contest where a philanthropic group which had the most people name it as their designated site would receive $50,000. The most I've done there was some scrappy postings :-X, usually in reply to the animals vs. people debate.
I don't know if they count if you don't nurture the site. Can you say you have houseplants if they are all withering in their pots? ???

Didn't even think of forums when naming sites.
-
I cannot stand social networking sites, most notably, MYSPACE.COM, all forms of existence this site holds should be erased from the universe forever. Now don't get me wrong, I do understand that people use it for messaging their long lost cousin that lives in the Bahamas, but what the majority of people who use it for is just absolutely ridiculous. You can almost hear them saying, "Look at me look at me! I know how to point a camera at a mirror and take a cool and unique picture of myself!"
To me, that is as vain as you can get.
-
WOW , you all must not play poker. I am a member of at least 750 forums , most of them poker related. I am a regular contributor at 15 or so. Many computer related, phpbb, I run my own poker forum.
You should get out more
Every forum has it's own rules, personality and a different feel. You have to try out a few till you find where you are comfortable

My thoughts, to a tee.
Are you reading my mind, or are you my alter ego?

It obviously depends on how one defines it - I voted one, with Facebook in mind. I didn't even know YouTube was considered a social-networking site - I only have an account to keep a handful of favorite videos easily accessable. Forums would add another two (regularly, that is) and if YouTube is considered social networking, I use Photobucket far more (though never for social networking). By social networking, however, I consider it to be talking with people I know - I don't go to forums for the social aspect, rather, because I'm interested in the primary subject of the forum.
-
Two for me: MySpace and Melodramatic, only including ones where I'm active. Can't say I'm a big MySpace fan, but I'm certainly not a basher. Just because teenagers misuse the site, that doesn't mean it's lacking practicality. It's a great way for me to stay in contact with my girlfriend during the week. We're not phone people and we generally only talk on the phone at bedtime. It's also nice for keeping in touch with people without having to inconvenience myself and deal with certain formalities. I like that I can send a random message to someone to see how they're doing without having to look for their number (or get it from someone else), stop by their house, or show up at their job. I wanted to thank my girlfriend's sister for buying dinner the other night, and all I had to do was send a quick message. It helps me avoid the awkward small talk and I don't have to worry about waking her up or catching her when she's busy. I also don't seem nearly as creepy as I might if I had just randomly called her. So, the site is certainly useful for this sort of thing.
As for whether or not forums count as social networking...I think it depends on how you use them. On this forum, I don't socialize very much. On another one I used to frequent, I was there mostly to keep in touch with certain people. Although loose, I still think it counts. That's why sites like YouTube, 4chan, and even Neopets can count as well.
-
all i'm a member of is facebook but i am a part of numerous forums if those count (7 come to mind right now but i know theres more)
-
I have a never ending list. Don't use them all the time though.
-
I'm on a ton of forums but no social networks. Unless CBs count, then I'm CONSIDERING starting one. Can't afford cell phone, so that may be an option for about 10miles.
-
I think it's a wonderfully complex question; and ice breaker.
I answered two, as I did not like the implication behind "One" as an answer.
Actually, I am just bit of a recluse. With encouragement from my brother, I made a myspace account; but never used it to date. Now, I always get these email friend request from people I never met.
I have an Ilovephilosophy account that I visit once or twice a year.
Stumble is great, I use it to find different computer tech sites, chess sites, Buddhist philosophy sites, and various world culture related sites.
I would have answered zero; because I interpret "social sites" to refer to sites where I actually interact with acquaintances; and I've yet stick with any particular site long enough to make any .
tmc :D
-
Oh, social networks? I thought you meant networks, where you share files and stuff like that...
Two forums (ComputerHope and SWI Forums), two e-mail (Yahoo! and Windows Live) and one Windows Live Spaces account.
-
I'd say forums count as a social networks because we still communicate with others. I voted 5+, starting with something simple as YouTube and going into detailed forums like computerhope.com; I'm a member of more than 5 but less than 10 otherwise it gets difficult to track them all and stay up-to-date.
-
Guess i fall in the majority here too...with forums being the leader. I belong to 7 if memory serve right...being a mod on 2 to help keep the peace, heh.
Also Yahoo groups..business related, plus giblink...which i think would qualify even tho it is a business...it's set up on the social network ideal. Lots of interaction.
Oh. also use the google blogger..but not often yet.
-
i have too many that i've lost count. don't even remember what those networks were for. i just liked joining them when i was younger! ;D
