Title: How to recover a unallocated hard drive

Some how I've ended up with a unallocated hard drive...40 gig.
At the moment Im using a “Ubuntu Live CD”, which has “Gnome” partition editor.
As at the moment when I try too boot from the harddrive it tells me “ no file system present”. ( that being Windows XP Pro), which I have on the hard drive...I was trying to install “Ubuntu”.
What I would like to know is:
Can I restore the unallocated hard drive to “active” to a primary hard drive, so it boots on starting the laptop, as Im sure the files are still on their.
Can I use the create a new partition, unformatted using the Gnome editor, or should I create it using the “ntfs” file system.
Please help,,,as I know Ive made a sill mistake...thanks

Sounds like your Ubuntu install went south and trashed the master boot record.  Where's Rob when you need him  ???
