Title: XD Drive won't read?
Post by: ODBJBG on February 23, 2008, 08:19:11 AM
So I have a HP a1709n, with a smart media/XD drive that reads camera memory cards of that size. It's worked ever since I got the computer. But today I pop in the card (Which works) and nothing happens. The little light doesn't come on.

Is this possibly a driver problem? Is there somewhere I can download an update to fix this, or what else could be the problem? Help would be GREATLY appreciated as I have some pictures I need to get off this card and onto the computer relatively soon.

It's possible it could be a driver issue, however if the card is reading fine in the camera I'd imagine it's more than likely a bad drive

Link to their driver page (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=3354752&lang=en&)

Unfortunately as you can see through the above link to their drivers page they don't have stand-alone drivers for the card reader. It's likely bundled with other drivers (which I don't know how they handle them for this model of computer). What I'd suggest is that you call HP and see what they recommend, it's likely that if they don't have stand-alone drivers that if the media is being read fine in the camera they'll simply set you up for repair.
