I download lots of pictures of places on my computer using Internet Explorer 7 - and the Images tab. I later transfer the pictures on to an external hard drive (a maxtor) and delete them from my computer. However sometimes with increasing frequency when I open a page and click on the site that I want nothing happens. If I close down what I am look at and try to open something on my desktop again nothing happens. If I shut down the computer and restart then everything works as it should for a few minutes then the problem comes back.
I amusing Vista home premium
32 bit system
Dual Core
Smbios 2.4
Total physical memory 2037.88MB
availably physical memory 1.31GB
Virtual memory 4.19GB

I have scanned for viruses and spyware using AVG in safe mode but have found nothing. Can someone help?

Try Firefox.
-
Are you emptying your Temp and temporary internet file folders regularly ? ?
Could this be a connection issue ? ?
-
Broni and Patio,
I tried Firefox and found nothing. I empty my Temp and temporary files weekly when I do my weekly scans. i.e. disc cleanup, antivirus, adaware, window washer and registry cleaner. Once a month I defrag and every couple of months I do a full systems check using the Vista programme. This problem only occurs when I use the internet (on broadband). It does not happen when I am doing anything else.

What is the "Images tab"?
-
Soybean,
If I open Internet Explorer at the top left hand corner are the following tabs. Web,images, maps, news, video and gmail. When I am looking for pictures I click on the "Images" tab and I get sites showing images.
glenafton
-
Such "tabs" are not standard features of IE. How/where did you get them?
-
I think, he is talking about Google's menu.

So, you're saying that clicking on a link on web page, doesn't do anything?
-
Google shows images from many sources. Some or many will have watermarks or copyright imprinted on them and you need to buy the image to get one with no markings. I'm wondering why you're downloading lots of images. And, what's your technique for getting them? Do you right click on them and select Save As, or what?
-
Soybean and Broni,
The images that I download are pictures of Scotland (I am a Scot). What I do when I see a picture that I want is to send it to a folder in My Documents. From there I send it to my Maxtor and then I delete the pictures from my computer. Most of the pictures are free for personal use.
You are correct in that the "Images" tab is on the Google menu.
I did a little experiment. I have just gone through a lot of the pages on Computer Hope and not once has it caused a problem. I must have opened over 20 pages (in different catagories) without any trouble. Does this help?

Which pages don't open, then?
-
Broni,
In the Google menu I click on the Images tab and type Pictures of Scotland or something similar into the search box and click on search images That open a window with about 15 thumbnails. I click on whatever I want and view/download the picture. This works fine for a while but then for some reason the thumbs will not open.
I can close the window down but some of my desktop items will not work. If I restart the computer ang go through the process again the thumbs will work for a while.
