What is ur fav Win OS? and Why? personally i hve 2 XP, and Win 2000.
-
Played some of my favorite games on Win98. It wasn't completely removed from DOS, so one could actually use DOS (without having to be a guru) to resolve some issues.
Actually, had MS-DOS been on here, I might've voted for it.
-
would u also agree that Win 98 is bttr than Windows ME. cuse Windows ME always had probs on my comp.
-
Windows ME must be the worst OS ever.
-
yes it was crap. :P
-
thats why im upgrading to XP
-
Windows ME was so bad, I didn't even keep it on my computer! ::) I paid real money for it, and uninstalled it about two weeks later...
Talk about laughing all the way to the proverbial bank -- you're welcome, Mr. Gates.
-
actually it wuz my dads money, not 2 be rude to my dad but he doesnt know alot about comps. thats why i advise him on a new computer that DOESNT HAVE WIN ME
-
You can't beat win98 SE. It was and still is the most stable OS (aside from MS-DOS, of course)

No it wasn't. 98 had terrible memory management that would slowly eat up all available RAM and its reliance on the FAT32 file system made it a lot more likely files would be corrupted in a crash. Granted, it was better than 95 and ME but the NT family of Windows have always been the most stable ones.
2000 was and is rock solid and after SP2 XP is in IMO just as stable and probably more secure out of the box.
-
i would have to say Win 2000 and XP have the best networking features out of all of the os's. especialy Win 2k, it has file/printer sharing, TCP/IP, and more same goes for XP.
-
anybody else have comments on their favorite Win OS?
-
Windows XP because its pretty much the only OS i've used in that list....
-
Windows 98, when audio was still hardware controlled before they introduced software control in ME and later versions of Windows.

Initially, I wasn't going to waste my time on this survey. But ... after reading some of the replies, I had to throw my two cents in.

Like Bones92 (and several others), I used to feel that 98SE was the best op sys. I loaded it on dozens of my friend's and coworkers computers, when their Win95 systems crashed, or were simply running bad. It was definitely the best for it's day!
I stuck with 98SE way past the release of ME and past XP. I loaded it on a new system I built well into the XP era. (AMD 1600, if I remember correctly). It was a lemon.(or so I thought) Every couple of months, the system would start acting badly, and I would reload the OP sys. Win 98 of course. Finally after about 18 months of problems, I went out and bought a complete factory loaded P4 2.6GHz System with XP Home edition on it. Ran great.
Some time later, a close friend (on a limited income) needed a computer bad. I told him that my old system was a lemon. Didn't care, it was better than nothing, if he could borrow it. I said OK, but loaded XP professional on this lemon before delivering it. To make a long story even longer, He used the system for a couple of years with no problems.
My conclusion, and the moral of the story is this. Always use the OP system that was prevalent when the hardware was built. The hardware designers test and optimise their boards for the current OP systems. My vote was for XP, but conditionally considering the following.
If you still have an old 286 system, load DOS 6.22. If you are trying to set up that P133 system in the closet, use 98SE. With a newer system, run XP. (or Vista maybe)
Anyone agree with that? ???

Makes sense to me.
I built a computer for my Step Father a few years back. AMD Athlon 1900 if I recall. I tried to load 98se on it and had nothing but problems. (he was trying to save money) Went to XP and it has been running strong ever since.
I liked 98se, but I found I had to reboot every couple days to clear the memory. I like XP, and I have Vista on my laptop and like it also.

Oh Joy...another Poll.
-
Didn't you vote for Win 2K several times, already?
-
Not this time...
But thanx for remembering !
-
Oh, change of heart?
-
Yes as a matter of fact...i seem to be spending 90% of my time on this buggered install of Vista.
How it got so bad i'll never know...
-
Don't blame me. All Vista tweaking programs, you volunteered to download, and try....hehehe
-
Didn't you vote for Win 2K several times, already?
no i only voted once.
-
My comment was for patio...LOL

Although I despise Windows, and am glad to have it off my computer, I would say 2000. It's up to date, doesn't have the WGA virus, or Windoze update, or Palladium AKA Treacherous Computing, and doesn't use your entire RAM+swap, and has less (though still quite a few) security problems. 98 is just plain too old, not to mention constant BSODs.

You are correct Mr Data, Not to mention the lockups due to 'illegal operation'.
-
Can you explain what (still quite a few ) security issues may exist ? ?
-
Windows ME must be the worst OS ever.
I've used Windows ME before and the only problem I've got with it is a virus that McAfee doesn't want to get rid of. I do want to install AVG Free Edition, but it has no internet connection.
I most people hate Windows ME so much.
Then again, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, right?
-
i agree fully i mean who would load XP onto a 486 Computer, so personally here how i determine wat os should be loaded onto the sys depending upon the amount of ram and the speed & type of proccesor.
If you want to run Win 98 or Win 98SE i personally would want to run it on a comp with these specs:
Pentium 2
with 64MB of RAM
for Win 2000 and XP, i pesonally would want to run it on a comp with these specs:
Pentium 3 or higher(Win 2000), Pentium 4 or higher(Win XP)
with 256MB(For Win 2000), 512MB(For Win XP)
llmeyer do you agree with this as well?
