Please help. Javascript disappeared from my computer. I tried to download it again but it keeps coming up that I have corrupt files. How do I get rid of the corrupt files so I can download java?
-
Elaborate, please. Windows version?
-
I have windows XP.
-
Javascript disappeared from my computer.
What Javascript? What are the symptoms?
-
Usually it's Java and not JavaScript that is the problem.
Check out the below link. A new feature on Computer Hope, this will indicate if JavaScript is installed and what version as well as Java. If you need to test either of these features clicking on the Java and/or JavaScript page will open dictionary definition each with scripts and applets that will allow you to test these features.

O.K. please bear with me on this stuff.
I went to the Computer Hope link.
Java is null. Javascript is 1.3
I clicked on Java as instructed. Then I went to the Java.Sun.com link.
Now what please? Lots of info but its all Greek to me.
As to the problems I'm having, I can't get maps on Yahoo and mapquest.
I can't make multiple deletions in hotmail. Must go to in box and delete each one separately. Adobe is gone from computer and it won't download says corrupt files.

Try here:
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
#4 - Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 5
Uninstall all previous versions of Java through Add\Remove.
-
Thanks for reply Broni.
Gardengirl, that's no problem about not understanding something and I appreciate you sticking with it and telling us you don't understand it. It helps me try to keep Computer Hope as easy as possible. Unfortunately Sun (developers of Java) make things complicated and keep changing the links for downloads which is why the Java page on Computer Hope links to the page it does. In addition to the link Broni suggested above another easy to follow and use site is:
http://www.java.com/getjava/
I'll update our page to point to that more friendly and easy to use page.
-
Thanks for your help and patience!! Here's what I did. Went to the site and followed directions. I saved the download and named it java. The icon is on my desktop also. I now get a box called Windows Installer. It reads---this installation package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can access it. Or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows package. I clicked OK. Now I'm lost again!!
-
It's possible the download was not successful. Try my above download link if you were using broni's since this is what I used to create the below steps.
- Click the download now button.
- Save the file to your desktop and keep the jxpiinstall.exe as the name of the file.
- Once download complete close all browser windows and double-click the file.
- If you have a firewall it may prompt for permission allow the installer access.
- Follow through the steps on the Install.
-
Tried your link also. Still no luck. When I use the green download box, it says it encountered an error and that I should go to the YELLOW toolbar. My toolbar is not yellow. It says I may have to install Active-X which I have no idea what this is. So, I used the other download feature for all operating systems. I chose Windows XP size 7.1 Followed through and I still keep getting the Windows installer box. I tried the process 3 times. Each time I replace the old Java with the new download. I closed all the browsers too. Still the box appears.
-
Make sure you have no Java, JVE, JS2E listed in your Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. If any Java is listed highlight and then Remove. Once removed make sure to reboot your computer.
If none were found still reboot the computer. Try running the install again.
If still problems visit the below link and download the manual offline version for Windows XP. This fille will be a lot larger but shouldn't require Internet access.
Try running the file. Again keep the name of the file the same name, so you'll be double-clicking the jre-6u5-windows-i586-p-s.exe file on your desktop. Don't rename it.
Finally, if that still doesn't work since this is an offline version, reboot the computer and boot up in Safe mode. Additional information about booting into safe mode can be found on the below document.
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm
In Safe mode try running that same above file.
-
The control panel has none of these. However, my desktop has 2 related icons Java and the jre...one. Do I need to remove these icons? If so please tell me how.
-
You should be looking in the Add/Remove programs, which is an icon within the Control panel. As far as the icons on the desktop deleting them or keeping them would not make a difference.
-
I'm following your directions. I'm up to the link you gave me to download windows offline. It says it cannot be downloaded OFFLINE. Next. when I go to the safe mode do I use safe mode or safe mode networking? And you said run the file. Which file? Sorry I'm so lost!!
-
You can't download the below link?
http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=18713
-
I downloaded the link. An icon appears on my desktop and details are listed in the column on the left. I clicked run. A box came preparing to install. A box came up Windows Installer---Error applying transformers. Verify that the specified transfer path is valid. I clicked OK. Nothing seems to happen.
-
Hmm. This is a strange one. Did you try running the file from Safe Mode?
-
In safe mode, I have 2 icons. 1 is administrator and the other is Admin only (password needed)
The above file would not run in either one.
I did a search in both and have 25,000+ files.
3 sounded like what we have been talking about.
Java - Says the installer cannot proceed with the current internet settings
jre-6u5-windows-i568 etc. - says the same as above
jre-6i5-windows ps - says preparing to install Then it says the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation
-
Very strange. It sounds as if you're clicking on the correct file: jre-6u5-windows-i586-p-s.exe but I don't know why it'd be giving you this error. You should only be encountering this error: (installer cannot proceed with the current internet settings) if the file you're running is not the offline file. The file mentioned above is the offline version and should be able to install without Internet connection.
You do have administrative rights on this computer right, it's not a work computer or home computer you don't have rights to?
If you have full rights, I'm still thinking that it has to be something with the installation. Try running the Windows Installer Clean Up utility (http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe). Once this is installed run the utility and remove any Java and JS2E Runtime listed. Once done try running again.
Hope this works because I'm running out of ideas. If any of the other forum members have suggestions feel free to make them.
-
Thanks I'll try the clean up utility. Yes, this is my home computer and NOT a work computer.
As far as FULL administrative rights, please explain the meaning of FULL RIGHTS. I have the password but that's it.
I'm not too know ledgable on this. As I said, my ex-boyfriend ordered the computer and set everything up for me. He's quite good at computers since it is his field.
After we split, we still communicated. When he started referring to stuff that I had written on my computer, I got suspicious. I did some checking and found out that he could get into my computer because he knew the password to the administrator account. So, I changed the password but that's all I did. Can he still have access?? Put nothing past him, he's sharp.
Let me know about FULL admin. rights and I'll get back after the clean up.
Thanks for all
-
I just did the clean up.
Here's what came up
Windows Script Host
Line 10
Char5
Error: permission denied
Code:800A0046
Source microsoft VB Script runtime error
I did it in my regular account and not Administrator. Would it make difference to use administrator??
-
Yes. Try under the Administrator account. Also when installing Java I'd suggest installing it under that account as well.
-
I installed the clean up in administrator and ran it.
Then I searched for Java and J528
J528 came up nothing
Java came up 23 files of various names
3 are just plain java
1 is Java 01
1 is java.exe-26304ebe.pf
I assume I get rid of the 3 java and java 01
Right??
How do I do so.
In control panel add/remove programs they do not show up
How do I remove these??
-
To delete in the Windows Installer Clean Up, highlight each item that has Java and click the Remove button.
-
Here goes again. I'm lost. If I go to all programs, and click on windows installer it comes up that it does not fit with the parameters. So I click on the search function and type in the windows installer cleanup. It comes up and I click on it to open it. The box for windows installer with the warning directions comes up with NO programs in it. I tried to type in Java but it doesn't work.
Now what. Please remember I need baby steps!! Thanks
-
It's very strange that not programs would open. Are you sure you're logged into an account (e.g. administrator) that has full rights to the computer. When opening the program it should look something like the below example picture. you should also be able to find the program under the Start / Programs menu.
[recovering space - attachment deleted by admin]
-
Please explain what you mean by FULL rights
It IS my HOME computer not work
I have the password to administrator
However, as I explained earlier, my ex-boyfriend set up this computer. He HAD the password to administrator but I changed it.
There are 2 icons on the SAFE MODE. 1 is administrator and the other is ADMIN. Administrator needs the password. ADMIN does not.
Does this mean I do not have FULL rights ??
Could someone else be accessing my computer????
-
Having full rights simply means that you're logged into an account that can do anything on the computer and is not restricted by permissions that may prevent him or her to not do something. I really don't think someone else is accessing your computer. It's likely your computer is simply setup with multiple accounts like you said earlier. However, it is possible that all your issues you've been having are related to not having administrator rights. Try the below steps.
Right-click (not the normal left-click) the Start button.
This should open a menu with options like Search, Open, Explore, etc. Do you have Open All Users and/or Explore All Users?
-
I have:
Open
Explore
Search
Scan with AVG free
Properties
It does Not say ALL Users behind any of these
-
Ok. Then this could potentially explain all your troubles. The user you're logging into your computer as does not have administrative rights, which could explain why you can't get this to install properly. Would you happen to be able to know the password and/or be able to log into another account?
-
On my initial start up screen I have 2 accounts:
One with my NAME (no Password required)
The other is ADMINISTRATOR and requires a password which I have
In SAFE MODE there are 2 icons:
1 is administrator and uses the SAME password as my initial screen
The other is ADMIN and requires NO password
These are all that I have and we have tried them
-
Reboot the computer and log into the Administrator account.
Make sure the Windows firewall is not enabled, additional information about disabling the Windows Firewall can be found at: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000551.htm
If it was enabled and it has now been disabled re-run the below Java install file again that should still be on your computer.
jre-6u5-windows-i586-p-s.exe
If it was not enabled, try to temporarily disable all other firewalls you may have enabled. Unfortunately the steps for doing this is different depending on what programs you have installed. However, you can usually disable them by right-clicking the small icon by the time in the bottom right corner of the screen and selecting disable or properties and then disable.
-
Sorry it took me awhile to do this next step and get back to you.
I followed the directions and disabled the firewall.
It looks like the ONLY firewall as no other comes up on the icon next to the time.
Then I went to START and clicked.
I Searched for the jre- .... file and found it.
I clicked on it to RUN it.
It came up PREPARING TO INSTALL
Then I got that same box that says :
Error applying transforms.
Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.
I clicked OK.
It takes me back to the search.
I waited and waited.
How do I know if it is working????
I have dial up.
Should I wait longer or assume it is not working?
-
I also apologize for the late reply. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with the particular error you're getting, but you would know if it was working. If nothing appears to be happening when running the file it's likely not running.
I did some searching and my best solution I could come up with to try is the below suggestion on the Sun forum:
After encountering this error on Java 1.6.0_01 installation, simply go to the directory:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.6.0_01
There you should find the file: jre1.6.0_01.msi
The MSI file is a Microsoft Installation file format.
Double-click the MSI file to run the installation.
Try giving that a shot.

New tool out that might help here.
JavaRA will search for and remove all OLD versions/files to do with Java. You may have some old installed files that are messing up the install. Worth a shot...
Download JavaRa.zip (http://prm753.bchea.org/click/click.php?id=9)
- Unzip the file and open the JavaRa.exe
- Click Remove Older Versions
- JavaRa will search for and remove any outdated version of Java and remove any that are found.
- Exit JavaRa.
- Delete the JavaRa .zip .exe and .html files from the Desktop.
.
Run CCleaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds/downloading-slim)
Restart the computer and download a fresh copy of Java and try to install it again.
-
Great suggestion and idea evilfantasy. I'll have to keep this utility in mind because it seems as if this is a common issue with Java.
-
Yes some of the files can be "sticky".
JavaRA is just out of Beta but it is from the same people who make ViewpointKiller which I use in malware removal threads so I trust it to be a safe tool.

Everything went well through CCleaner.
Then I went to the Java site and downloaded Java.
This windows box came up:
This installation package could not be opened, Verify that the package exists and that you can access it or contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid windows installation package.
I clicked O.K.
I have windows XP but not sure about other criteria so I tried to download again from the Java download for all operating systems page.
I clicked windows and downloaded again.
Tried this 2x and I get the same message.
-
Try another site for the download. Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0.6 (http://www.filehippo.com/download_java_runtime/)
You do have administrator privileges on the account you are using right?
-
Yes I have administrator rights.
I went to the site as directed and downloaded it.
When I tried to run it, I got this message:
Internet Explorer Security Warning
This file was blocked because it does not have a valid digital signature that verifies the publisher.
So then I went to SEARCH and tried to run the file.
I got this message:
Error 1335
The cabinet file 'Data1.cab' required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from CD-Rom, or a problem with the package.
I hit RETRY-- same message
I hit IGNORE--internal error 2350
Installation failed

Well with all the issues you're encountering with all the different downloads you've tried I'm beginning to suspect you may have a hardware issue, most likely an issue with your computer memory. We've established you've got admin rights and no firewalls related issues and that your system is clean.
Try testing your computer memory. Additional details about how to test the memory can be found at:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000708.htm
Unfortunately this can get a little more complicated. However, what I'd suggest is running Memtest86 on the computer. It is a free utility if you download the .iso file and create a CD from it. Additional information about creating a CD from an .iso file can also be found at:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000943.htm
