Title: Adobe Flash player Will not load.
Post by: srtony1946 on April 08, 2008, 04:16:40 PM
For some reason I cannot open Adobe flash, It downloaded to my hardrive but will not open? I went to the support website but nothing works? I  removed the old adobe from add and remove, and downloaded the new version. Did not help, The web site told me to change settings But when I did windows gave me an error message saying not to continue with the settings like they are. I Am using windows XP, I recently downloaded a new version of Spywareblaster. That seems to be when the trouble started, But I diabled It and still can't open Adobe? Any Ideas, Thanks.

This is not a program that appears on your Programs menu.  So, exactly what do you mean by "open Adobe"?

Hmm, you said you had installed it.  So, how could you change settings?

What is your current status?  It's not installed, right?  IOW, it's not in your Add or Remove Programs list?

Adobe Flash Player is NOT standalone program, so you can't open it. It's browser's plug-in, which allows you to see flash animations on web pages.
Uninstall Flash Player, using this: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
Install fresh copy.

Can you go to this web page?: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15507&sliceId=2

Does it confirm the version of the Flash Player you have installed?

I suggest you uninstall it again, using the tool on the web page posted by Broni. Then, download, install, and run CCleaner.  Get the Slim version of CCleaner here (http://www.ccleaner.com/download/builds).

Some info on configuring CCleaner (http://www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,22078.htmlhttp:/www.computerhope.com/forum/index.php/topic,22078.html).  The info there is a little out-dated.  What used to be called Issues scan is now called Registry.  So, run a Windows scan and remove all that stuff.  Then, run a Registry scan, backup the registry when prompted, and tell CCleaner to fix all issues found.  Repeat the registry scan; it sometimes finds additional items upon a repeat scan.

Then, download Flash Player from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/ and reinstall it.  Disable your anti-virus program when downloading and installing Flash Player, just to be sure it's not interfering in a successful installation.
