Title: Pasting Rich Text Without Losing Format
Post by: rememberwhen on April 24, 2008, 03:14:02 PM
Hi,

I'm used to using message software (i.e. Notepad or Wordpad) to write notes, messages and even compose emails, which I later just paste into a compose window.  If I use Wordpad or a similar rich text editor, I can copy-and-paste the message into OE, for example, and not lose any formatting (i.e. italics, bold, etc. are still there).  But if I paste it into, say, my compose screen at Fastmail webmail, no formatting is seen.  OTOH, if I compose an email in OE in rich text/html and then paste it into Fastmail's compose window, the formatting is retained.

No, this isn't a question about Fastmail.  I'm wondering what explains the loss of formatting in one instance and not the other.  I'd like to be able to compose messages (i.e. emails) in the software I use more frequently anyway (Wordpad, et. al.) as opposed to an email client.  But I would like to be able to copy-and-paste it into any compose window -- of an email client or webmail client (where the compose window is set to compose in hmtl) -- without losing all the formatting in the process.

(Oh, and I don't want to send the rich text as an attachment, but as the body of the email itself).

Any comments appreciated.    :)
