Title: Unable to Click Anything, possibly other problems
Post by: sjn2009 on April 25, 2008, 08:25:19 PM
First I'd like to say I am open to all suggestions as long as they are safe. I am not computer savvy but do the best I can to fix the issue myself. Since I ran out of ideas and I have the feeling I screwed myself over I should come here, I also posted on some other help forums that gave me dead ends.

Following the "Read First" thread I'll post what computer specs I currently know:
Microsoft Windows XP (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254: Service Pack 2)
Computer Make/Model Unknown, tell me how to find it and I will edit post
256 MB RAM
Unknown Hard Drive, tell me how to find and I will edit post
Sound Card: Sound Blaster something... Quite old.
Video Card: nVidia 6600, 2.5 years old
No current Protection other than Windows Defender, BitDefender trial ran out a month before this problem below began
Unknown if I have the real Windows CD, computer bought as barebone(I think) and built by older brother in 2002. Upgrades/changes in software/etc made throughout the years

Now for the problem:
Well my problems started Tuesday night, 2-22-08, after downloading ObjectDock Plus 1.9 with a Keygen (Yes I realize it is illegal and unsafe to do so but I wanted to test it out). After unzipping the file I ran the keygen to make sure it worked before installed ObjectDock I got a message from Windows Defender saying there was a Virus/Trojan on the file. I assumed that it was only giving me the message because it was a keygen. After clicking accept I notice the keygen open, it looks as any other does when opening but I notice that I can no longer click any buttons. I also attempted to use keyboard keys/combinations yet nothing worked except Task Manager. I found this quite odd so rebooted my computer with the manual "Turbo Restart" button on the case. Everything seemed normal, windowsblinds and Styler openend up so I assumed it must be the Vista like skin I had installed so I tried to close the program from taskbar. After 10 seconds from windows showing up I was no longer able to click again. I assumed I must have downloaded a virus or something was wrong with some warez I had installed.
Fearing the worst I shut down my computer for the night. The next day I booted it up in "Last Known" and it was still the same problem. So once again I restarted but ran in Safe Mode. From here I uninstalled Windowsblinds and deleted the folder/files in C:Programs for "ObjectDock" and "Styler". (Bad mistake I assume.) I continued on to run a full computer scan with Windows Defender, currently my only working anti-virus since BitDefender trial had run out, and after 2 hours it found a Trojan named "Mee..." something. I assumed my problems were over and restarted through Start. However to my surprise I still have similar issues with a cherry on top. Styler now opens a window asking to find some installer through a network.

Sorry that I typed a wall of text but I wanted to give the best explanation for my problems and get some good help.

Repost without using "code", because it's hard to read.

Repost without using "code", because it's hard to read.
Sorry, I used code so it would be easier to tell where my description began. Although I suppose it didn't consider the Black on Gray readability.

Most likely, you're infected.
Windows Defender is NOT an antivirus.
Never attempt to use internet without working firewall, and antivirus!
If you download ANYTHING through torrents, or other P2P program, each, and every file MUST be scanned with antivirus.

Now, let's see what you got there...

Print these instructions out.

1. Download SUPERAntiSpyware Free for Home Users:
http://www.superantispyware.com/ (http://www.superantispyware.com/)

    * Double-click SUPERAntiSpyware.exe and use the default settings for installation.
    * An icon will be created on your desktop. Double-click that icon to launch the program.
    * If asked to update the program definitions, click "Yes". If not, update the definitions before scanning by selecting "Check for Updates". (If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download and unzip them from here: http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html (http://www.superantispyware.com/definitions.html).)
    * Close SUPERAntiSpyware.

Restart computer in Safe Mode.
To enter Safe Mode, restart computer, and keep tapping F8 key, until menu appears; select Safe Mode; you'll see "Safe Mode" in all four corners of your screen

    * Open SUPERAntiSpyware.
    * Under "Configuration and Preferences", click the Preferences button.
    * Click the Scanning Control tab.
    * Under Scanner Options make sure the following are checked (leave all others unchecked):
          o Close browsers before scanning.
          o Scan for tracking cookies.
o Terminate memory threats before quarantining.
    * Click the "Close" button to leave the control center screen.
    * Back on the main screen, under "Scan for Harmful Software" click Scan your computer.
    * On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
    * On the right, under "Complete Scan", choose Perform Complete Scan.
    * Click "Next" to start the scan. Please be patient while it scans your computer.
    * After the scan is complete, a Scan Summary box will appear with potentially harmful items that were detected. Click "OK".
    * Make sure everything has a checkmark next to it and click "Next".
    * A notification will appear that "Quarantine and Removal is Complete". Click "OK" and then click the "Finish" button to return to the main menu.
    * If asked if you want to reboot, click "Yes".
    * To retrieve the removal information after reboot, launch SUPERAntispyware again.
o Click Preferences, then click the Statistics/Logs tab.
o Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
o If there are several logs, click the current dated log and press View log. A text file will open in your default text editor.
o Please copy and paste the Scan Log results in your next reply.
    * Click Close to exit the program.
Post SUPERAntiSpyware log.

2. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware: http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html (http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Anti-Malware_d5756.html) to your desktop.

    * Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    * At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    * If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    * Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    * When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    * Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    * When completed, a log will open in Notepad.
    * Post the log back here.

The log can also be found here:

Well I followed your post and printed it while on my mom's computer. I turned on this computer, my infected one, and entered through "Safe Mode with Networking" since regular windows still does not allow me to click.

How can I install these programs? I downloaded AntiSpyware with no problem but I am unable to install because of the following message:
The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation.

I am currently under the Administrator user since my own, which I thought was administrator, gave me the same message.

It's probably caused by infection. What about two other programs?

You have a lot of infections, so we'll try to get rid of as many as possible in Safe Mode, and then we'll see, if you can boot into Normal Mode to re-run some security programs.

The story with AVG was a few months ago, almost a year now, my computer had some graphics issues that neither I nor my brother could fix so we had someone come out. He installed a lot of things we didn't need so we uninstalled. I kept AVG because our McAfee stopped working a long long time ago. I was annoyed by not being able to play games or do things efficiently so I uninstalled AVG. I later had a friend over who said that was very unsafe to not have anything. So he brought a disk and installed BitDefender, I assume with a keygen. This is why BitDefender no longer works for me saying that trial or something has run up. And currently I can not afford to buy an official version of the software so I'm planning to just get the best FREE ware.

4. Click on Fix checked button.

Restart in Safe Mode.

5. Open Windows Explorer. Go Tools>Folder Options>View tab, put a checkmark next to Show hidden files, and folders.

6. Delete following files/folders (if present):

- BearShare Applications, BitDefender, Grisoft, Video ActiveX Object, Messenger, and Viewpoint folders from C:\Program Files
- BitDefender folder from C:\Program Files\Common Files
- search your computer for traywc.exe, and delete all instances

7. Try to restart in Normal Mode. Let me know, if you can.

Well I did as you said, other than restart in normal mode yet, and came up with the following road blocks/errors:

"Cannot delete avgse.dll: access is denied"
"Cannot delete bdutils.dll: access is denied"
"Cannot delete bdshelxt.dll: access is denied"
"Cannot delete txmlx.dll: access is denied"

I also could not locate "Video ActiveX Object" or "Viewpoint" folders.

Edit: Started normal and still could not click or do any functions. Only move the mouse.

Try to restart in Normal Mode, first. If you can't, give me new HJT log from Safe Mode.

Restarted, still unable to uninstall. Below is the full message:

Cannot delete avgse.dll: Access is denied.

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.

Also the BitDefender files, those 3 posted, still won't delete with the same message.

Download, and install Unlocker: http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
It'll install under your mouse right click menu, and it'll let you delete both folders on reboot.

Removed all 4 files with ease... Now what should I continue on to do? Or am I free?  ;D

Nooo, you're not free...LOL
Say "Our Father" two times, and try to restart in Normal Mode.

Successfully logged into Normal Mode, currently on it, but there was a bit of lag at the beginning where I almost lost hope.

Wow! "Our Father" helped :)
So, we have some serious progress.

DON'T do anything, unless I tell you to do so!

Is your Windows firewall on?

Try to install AVG. This is the most important thing, now.

Did you click YES to undo changes made by SAS?
Title: Re: Unable to Click Anything, possibly other problems

Windows Firewall is: ON

Unfortunately I do not see the installer for AVG that I downloaded so I am redownloading.

And as to the Undo thing I do not recall... I believe I press NO, please don't beat me  :'(

OK. We'll see, if it'll bring any problems.
Keep me updated about AVG status.

Very good :)
Run full scan.
Update it, and run full scan.
Let me know.

Ran scan, went well it found 3 threats, 1 spyware and something else... I just clicked past the view results because I wanted to update and get the second one started.

Second never finished because I blew a fuse.

Is there anything else I should do before im safe to do anything?

You're pretty safe now, but we have to make sure, your computer is totally clean.
Run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware one more time, and after that post new HJT log.
Title: Re: Unable to Click Anything, possibly other problems
Post by: sjn2009 on April 26, 2008, 10:15:23 PM
AVG keeps finding malware in places Malwarebytes has already scanned and Malware finds them in places AVG skipped... I don't know or understand much about viruses so can I assume they can move around the computer each time I restart or do anything?
Title: Re: Unable to Click Anything, possibly other problems
Post by: Broni on April 26, 2008, 10:27:06 PM
Just finish Malwarebytes, post its log, and post fresh HJT log. I'll take care of the rest.

Thx for all the help.

Last question I have is will I still be able to play my games/windows live messenger?...

One reason I couldn't stand AVG was it's constant scans/updating which slowed me down so I couldn't play with my friends when they needed me in the game. And now I have 6 different virus related programs that require updates.

Also I was curious why I'm having problems reinstalling Messenger Live. I finish the instalation process but it doesn't install the program. :(

I'll answer AVG question, and we may consider this thread done. You may start new topic about Messenger Live. You'll get more attention.
As far, as I know, your computer is clean, and this was the subject of this thread.

As for AVG, it updates only once a day, when you turn your computer on.
As for scan, I realize, they slow computer down, but in general, automatic daily scan is unnecessary. You may run the scan manually, once in a while.
To disable daily scan, right click on AVG icon in systray, click on Launch AVG Free Control Center
Click on Scheduled Tasks button.
Click once on Test plan in Basic Mode entry.
Click Edit Schedule button.
Uncheck Periodically start scheduled antivirus test
OK your way out.

I'm having some problems playing games now with AVG and Threatfire active. So my parents are willing to buy me a Virus Protection under $60...

Do you know of any virus protections that work well with games, kinda like bit defender.

Just my opinion but a paid AV program is not going to make your issues any better...Have you considered a clean install of Windows and Programs ? ?

patio's right about AVs...
What are your computer specs: processor speed, amount of RAM, hard drive size/free space, video card info...?
Title: Re: Unable to Click Anything, possibly other problems

Well before I had viruses I ran fine. But I read the forums for the game I'm attempting to play, grand chase, and people that run AVG get this error. It's an error where the GameMon can't load because of other programs running. Which people have told me AVG is the reason, it's resident shield and something else.

http://forum.ntreev.net/grandchase/forums/thread/8626.aspx

They may be wrong but since so many people get the problem with AVG I can only assume its the problem.

Edit: @Broni, I posted the specs I know on my original post.

Try Avast!, then, it's free, as well.
We still need that computer info.

1.3 GHz
512 MB RAM, although when I start the computer it only says 256 MB.
11.9 GB Free Space
nVidia GeForce 6600 (256 MB)

Edited because I ran Dxdiag

Well after starting the computer I get a few pieces of information in white on a black screen... I assume thats just my Video Card specs. Come to think of it that makes sense since i have 256 MB Visual memory.

Anyhow:
11.9/37.2 GB
Unsure what kind of HD it is. This computer used to belong to my brother but 2 years after he built it he took some parts out and sold it to me for $300. It used to run Dual HD's and RAID.
There are so many problems for me now lol.

Right click on "My Computer", click Properties, it'll tell you how much RAM you have.

I have 512 MB RAM. I started by going on My Comp properties but than did a dxdiag for the rest.

For gaming, I'd suggest, you have 1GB of RAM.
Then, again, try to uninstall AVG, and go for Avast free.

Didn't know where I should start a new message so I'll just add it here:

BitDefender is still causing my problems. It is messing with my Ethernet Card and other things. While attempting to install a Nod32 it was giving me gried and Add/Remove should it as still being installed.
-So I uninstalled it and there was an error, nothing to press but X so I did. Then it said restart computer. I did and it no longer showed up under Add/Remove but I was no longer able to connect to the internet.
--So I went into drivers and there were about 6 different BitDefender Drivers for my Network Card. I uninstalled them all, restarted computer and still no connection. I than right clicked my connection bars and noticed I had ESET Protection, Firewall, BitDefender and some others. So I uninstalled the BitDefender one and instantly got connection to my network.

So my question to you is. How can I make sure all BitDefender and AVG ent and programs are off my computer. All they are doing is giving me hassle!

I see no traces of BitDefender.
There is one AVG leftover.
Open HJT, and checkmark this:
- O2 - BHO: WormRadar.com IESiteBlocker.NavFilter - {3CA2F312-6F6E-4B53-A66E-4E65E497C8C0} - C:\Program Files\AVG\AVG8\avgssie.dll (file missing)
Click Fix checked button.

Open Windows Explorer, and make sure BitDefender, and Grisoft\AVG folders are gone.
