After using free anti-spyware protection for years, finally have deceided to buy some good protection, is there 1 or 2 products above all else that would be the best choice?
I was thinking of buying 'ESET Nod32 Antivirus System v3.0.642' as it seems quite popular, not sure what my second choice would be, maybe 'Kaspersky Anti-Virus'? Thoughts anyone who already uses a sharware anti-spy?

Anti-spyware and anti-virus are 2 different beasts that do different things...
Clarify what you have tried in the past and what you are looking for...
-
Well, I guess I'm looking for both, the paid versions must be better right?
I'm looking for the best resident shield, and best scanner.....
Now I am using AntiVir, Avast! Spyware Terminator, Threatfire, Online Armor....
-
Now I am using AntiVir, Avast!
Are you using TWO antivirus programs at the same time?
-
Yes, I guess I am, will get rid of one of them....
-
That's for sure.
You have enough protection. No need to pay for anything.
-
Any view on what product is better, Avast! or AntiVir?
Been using AntiVir for years, but sometimes have trouble qurenteeing items whenever they come up....
-
Avast seems to have little bit better press.

I found that Antivir gave better protection and slowed the system down less than Avast.
But that was a few years ago now.
My favourite antivirus is AVG 8, but NOD32 is good, just that I don't want to pay and it slowed my system down more than AVG. Kaspersky also does well in tests but for the absolute best protection I'd choose NOD32. AVG for me offers a good compromise, in that it's free, uses evry little resources, and offers very good protection too.
As for antispyware, I wouldn't personally pay for it. Spyware Blaster and Spybot's immunization, plus Spybot's scans and AVG 8's realtime protection, and a dash of common sense seem to work fine for me.
But, if you're happy with the programs you use, keep them, they will also do a good job of protecting your computer from unwanted nasties.

Thanx for the insight Calum.... 8)

If paying for a protection package gives you a better sense of being protected i'm certainly not the one to ask...
I'll let others carry this conversation on.
