Title: Problem going into standby mode
Post by: alp on May 04, 2008, 01:51:01 PM
I have Windows XP Home Edition 2002, Service Pack 2.  Lately, when I sign off to go into "Standby" the computer freezes.  I have to turn off and reboot.  What can I do to solve this problem?
I've always had problems with computer periodically freezing when I try to come out of "Standby"
I have defragmented, cleanup, etc.

I had that problem myself I just have it set at home office and only have my monitor go into standby mode. That's pretty typical of windows.

I know this doesn't help solve the problem, but I have 2 different PC's and both of them have that same standby problem. Lately I just use hibernate (hold SHIFT when clicking on standby) and so far have had no problems.

I had similar problem, but mine would not come out of sleep mode,  I googled the problem to no avail.  What I did was change my screen saver to start after 10 minutes.  Then in power options the only way I could correct the problem was set the power schemes to max battery, turn off monitor= 30 min, hard disks =never, system standby =30min, hibernate=never.  works for me in win xp-sp2.  Some of the smart guys Broni, Patio, etc. will start dropping by and probably have better solution.

I also use Win XP 2. When using the Ancestry web site I automatically connect to the net, but when I had my computer going into stand-by, after coming out of it, the prog would not auto connect to the web and each time I would have to reboot. Cancelled the 'standby' mode and everything is ok again.
